Neko Atsume is a cat-collecting game first released in October 20, 2014 by Hit Point Co., Ltd. Neko Atsume translates from Japanese as "Cat (Neko) Collection (Atsume)" in English. The goal of Neko Atsume is to collect cats to play in your yard. Doing so requires you to have a bunch of items for cats to play with. More importantly, though, you need to feed your cats in addition to letting them come into your yard. As the cats come to your yard to eat and play, You'll need to keep them entertained long enough so you can get bonuses from them when they leave.
"Neko Atsume" is available for iOS and Android devices. Oh... and did I mention this game is absolutely free?
Neko Atsume: Playing the Game
Now let me explain some of the finer points of the game. This is all you need to know about trying to maximize your Neko Atsume experience.
Tutorial.
Before you can begin being a cat-collecting master, you must first take part in a tutorial. The tutorial offered shows you the basics of buying Goodies and attracting cats. The tutorial is fairly easy to learn, so do not worry about facing anything totally advanced.The Goodies.
All goodies you buy are in the currency of Fish. More special items are spent using Gold Fish. You need both kinds of Fish to purchase items from the Shop. The first visible items are food items. Your first food is Thrifty Bitz, but you can buy other kinds of cat food. The many things you can buy are various toys, sleeping items, cat gyms, and more. What you add to your yard can make a difference in attracting as many cats as possible. So try to purchase various items as your finances will allow. If you can, you may have to grind a bit to get some of the more interesting Goodies.The Cats.
The cats are the stars of "Neko Atsume!" There are a total of about 66 cats to collect in this game. Attracting cats will take a good amount of work. Every cat that has visited your yard can be displayed in your Catbook. Basic information will be shown as to the collection date of that cat. More information on each cat that has visited your hard are shown in an additional screen. The cat's name, personality, power level, visits, and top 3 goodies are shown. You can also view your album of the specific cat if you saved pictures (more on this later in the post). You can even change the name of each cat if you like from the Catbook.When a cat enters your yard, it will play around with whatever items that interest him/her. For example, you may see a cat roll around grasping a rubber ball. You will find that the cat will enjoy certain items more than others. Use those items to ensure your cat will keep coming to your yard to play. While you do want your cats to return and love your yard, you want to try to get more cats to visit. So keep purchasing different kinds of items to attract different cats.
Try to win the friendship of cats to try to earn special gifts. Once your cats leave, they will thank you by offering Gifts to you. You can accept these gifts to help keep you in the mood of collecting cats or buying more expensive Goodies. The ultimate form of flattery from cats is when they offer you Mementos. A cat has to really enjoy coming to your yard to want to offer you a Memento. Try to gain Mementos from all cats if you can!
Other Considerations.
There are a few things to take note of as you play the game. Here are a few of those considerations:• It is good practice to play the game at certain intervals. Suspend or close "Neko Atsume" and come back around certain intervals. Anywhere between 10-15 minutes away from the game will allow for a certain amount of time for cats to visit and play in your yard. You can even play the game hours from suspending/closing "Neko Atsume." This may give you the best chance to collect enough Gifts from multiple cats.
• You can take a picture of any cat in your yard by going to Menu and then Camera. Tap on the cat you want to take a picture of. Adjust the size of the camera view if you like. If a cat is playing, you may need to try to find the best pose that cat makes in order to take the best possible picture. Once you have taken a picture you like, confirm to add it to that cat's album or to your Free Album. It is recommended to save pictures of individual cats to their own album. You can also take a picture of your entire yard- cats, goodies, and all- to be saved on your device through its Gallery. If you are not happy with a yard picture, take another. Just delete any copies of Gallery images you don't like from photographing your entire yard.
• If you see a new cat appear in your yard, it is best to take a picture of it to add to your Album. Taking a picture of a cat will help identify it as well as let you know you actually spotted the cat in your yard.
• If you are in a pinch for more currency, you can exchange your Fish for Gold Fish, and you can exchange Gold Fish for normal Fish. You can get 10 Gold Fish by exchanging 500 normal Fish. Ten Gold Fish can be exchanged for 250 Normal Fish. You can also use real money or your app store balance to purchase Gold Fish. You can purchase up to 300 Gold Fish using your own money or with app store credit.
• When buying cat food, you can buy only one pack of that food. For an added fee, you can purchase any good (excluding Frisky Bitz) in bulk. This will allow you to purchase other kinds of cat food in a pack of three. Replace your cat food when it gets low.
• Not all Goodies can be placed in all areas. Some Goodies can be placed in certain parts of your yard. Check for icons that have an "S" to them or an "L" to them. The "S" items are small items; the "L" items are large items. You know where you can place certain Goodies.
• To maximize your cat collecting potential, you will need to expand your yard. This will require you to buy the Yard Expansion item. Purchasing the Yard Expansion will allow you to have more areas to place your Goodies in and to allow more cats to enter your yard. You also will be able to change your yard to personalize your yard upon purchasing the Yard Expansion. Be warned- this is NOT cheap! You will need 180 Gold Fish to buy the Yard Expansion and to access the Yard feature!

"Neko Atsume" is one of the most adorable and addicting games ever produced. As a cat lover, I can not begin to tell you how much playing this game makes me happy. I can't help but smile even going through the menus- let alone just looking my yard! The cats that come into your yard are all totally cute! All of the action in this game is on a chill level. The curious nature of cats adds to the appeal of wanting to collect as many of these cats as you can. Fuel their curiosity and channel their cuteness to enjoy this experience as much as possible. Nothing is even remotely frustrating about this game. "Neko Atsume" has total downloads in the ten millions for good reason. The reasons why you may want to avoid this game is if: you don't like cats, you aren't intrigued to try to get more cats to visit your yard, or if you don't want to play a game that makes you smile or have a chortle (a light laugh). "Neko Atsume" can be excellent therapy. And considering the insanity in today's world of late, that is a great thing. So go download "Neko Atsume" if your Android or iOS device can install it. DEFINITELY recommend!
