PizzaPrincessG

(UPDATED: June 24, 2024)

One of the brightest stars of late on Twitch and YouTube is PizzaPrincessG. PizzaPrincessG is the "number 1 pizza streamer worldwide" for a reason. One needs only visit her channel to find out why. I figured as a viewer of her work, I showcase her channel and share with you how I feel about this channel.

BEFORE I BEGIN...

Everything in this blog post is all opinion-based. This is not meant to be a proper interview or article.

This blog post is about PizzaPrincessG, who is this lady below:

PizzaPrincessG
^ from: (YouTube) - Meet pizza royalty- PizzaPrincessG.

Giuliana Calascibetta, better known as "G," is one of the most popular personalities on Twitch and YouTube. This Italian-American pizza superstar goes by the handle of PizzaPrincessG across most social media. She makes pizza for Cam's Pizza in Rochester, New York, USA. Most of her streams showcase a day in the life of a pizza maker. Giuliana and her crew help feed the many customers who come in for pizza or some other meals. All of this is done in behind-the-scenes style and features many different lighthearted and funny moments. Besides making pizza streams, Giuliana also does gaming streams, art streams, and real life streams outside of pizza making. She is also a very good singer. Often times, she may be singing whatever is on the radio or singing her own songs in her own way. I jokingly call her singing as the "G Radio Network." :) The highest praise offered about Giuliana and her work is that she is called the "Taylor Swift of Pizza" by PMQ Pizza as well as being the "#1 Pizza Streamer Worldwide." G's stardom has taken her to great heights, including being part of TwitchCon on a number of occasions.

The most important thing to know about PizzaPrincessG is that G prefers to keep everything G-rated. That means there is little to no explicit swearing as you might hear across a number of different channels. Only slips of the tongue and some other situations are the only times you'd hear a naughty word uttered. Same applies for any sort of toilet humor. So this is a channel catered to a general audience rather than a specific set.

The last thing to share about Giuliana Giuliana Calascibetta is that she owns G Universal, which is a portfolio and hub to all of her online work. This is where you can learn more about Giuliana and her online work. You also get to see her showcase her awesomeness to the world. Giuliana is a positive figure and a very fun person.

My Testimonial.

I discovered PizzaPrincessG on Twitch as a recommendation back in September 9, 2021. I thought the channel was cool and fun when I visited it, so I decided to drop a Follow. I since have enjoyed each time I try to catch a stream of PizzaPrincessG.

That's the intro to PizzaPrincessG. Now on to the intricacies and thoughts on PPG's channel.

The PizzaPrincessG Experience

Giuliana Calascibetta is great at preparing pizza. She has made pizzas basically her entire life and has loving passion for her work. G recently enhanced her streams to where she has set up a second camera view where you can see her prepare a pizza in a closeup.

Giuliana prepares pizza as if she is giving life or saving the life of a pizza. From preparing dough to adding toppings, she really treats pizza like a living creature, and she takes great pride in giving that pizza dough proper loving care. That loving care is given to where that pizza is ultimately enjoyed by customers. I won't explain the whole process of her making pizza (I thought about explaining the process in preparing this blog post), but you do get a great idea of how to prepare a pizza by watching her live streams.

Some of the pizzas Giuliana prepares are what I call "art pizzas." Basically, an art pizza usually starts with a heart design from sauce, maybe a smiling face, maybe also "Don't forget to Follow" on it. She also made a unique Christmas tree pizza I remembered seeing her prepare live on stream. Even though G does make pizzas of different kinds, she is never afraid to showcase her artistic side. That possibly stems from the fact she sometimes do painting streams. So one can say she makes her own pizza masterpieces. Perhaps those pizza creations should be in the Smithsonian or the Louvre...

She takes pizza making passionately while still having a lighthearted and fun personality. The vibes are usually good even if Giuliana is not 100% any given day. G provides service with a wonderful smile. She puts full effort and heart into her work every day, every stream, and it shows. G is someone anyone can respect since she does everything with love and heart. Otherwise, why do anything without love or heart?

"Crazy Slices."

Every now and then at Cam's, Giuliana prepares unusual pizzas featuring ingredients not likely any regular soul would order. For example, would you order or eat a pizza that has Lucky Charms on it? What about a pizza with General Tso's chicken? Cam's Pizza isn't afraid to delve into the realm of quirky with pizzas.

Obviously, it would be perfectly normal if one would have some health concerns with some of these Cam's Crazy Slices. These Crazy Slices are not any nasty pizzas or any pizzas made with inedible ingredients. Just the fact these pizzas are even conceived is enough for respect.

While this video is not from Giuliana's channel, it is an idea of pizza prepared by her. It is a stylized look at her preparing a "Crazy Slice." Check it:

^ Bruschetta Pizza | Cam's Pizzeria | Rochester, NY

Cool, huh? :)

The PizzaPrincessG Experience on YouTube.

Giuliana extends her stardom to the likes of YouTube. She has a number of different themes on her YouTube Channel. Among them:

• Sipping the Tea With G - to help younger folks understand things about life, G provides advice and insight in this series.

• Cooking With G - Learn how to cook various edibles from G herself.

• Italian Things With G - insight on Italian lifestyle and culture discussed by G.

• Is This A? Vlog? - This series of videos features real-life insight from G.

There is something for everyone when visiting her work on Twitch or YouTube.

Besides her own channel, Giuliana has also provided content to the YouTube channel Hardcore Italians. One such video I saw was how she prepares pizza from scratch- the traditional way, not how most prepare pizza.

PizzaPrincessG Sample.

Here is a sample of what Giuliana provides to Twitch and YouTube:

Final Thoughts on PizzaPrincessG.

I personally love being a part of PizzaPrincessG and her fine community. Whether I am watching for a few seconds, a few minutes, or and hour or two; there is no shortage of awesomeness provided by Giuliana Calascibetta and her crew. She is witty and outspoken in all of her work. Personally, while I don't think I can make a proper pizza, she has inspired me to attempt making my own pizza someday. And perhaps, I will make that first pizza. I know I'll have G to thank if I am ultimately successful at it.

Anyone can make pizza. Anyone can make streams mostly about pizza making. But, who can provide the experience of pizza making and living life the way Giuliana Calascibetta does? It is not just making pizza, playing games, painting, dancing, or one factor- it is all of these factors combined with Giuliana's wonderful personality and charm that make her shine like the sun and sparkle like stars. This channel exemplifies the "good vibes only" mentality and a powerfully positive presence. Even if you are having the worst possible day, Giuliana can make your day much better and bring a smile to your face. She is just that powerful and polarizing.

While I don't make a big deal about it, it is at least refreshing G prefers keeping everything G-Rated. That means more people can safely enjoy the content on her channel without being bombarded with excessive swearing or certain toilet humor that could get you in trouble if you view them in certain settings. It just makes for a more refreshing experience from the norm on Twitch and even YouTube.

What I Would Tell PizzaPrincessG (if she were to read this)...

Giuliana Calascibetta, thank you so much for your incredible personality and your fun streams. It brings me great pleasure to enjoy your content for however long I am in your streams. I have been more than proud to always enjoy the experience you provide on Twitch and YouTube. While I don't mind more mature material, I do like you keep things G-Rated so more people can enjoy the experience of PizzaPrincessG without it being overly wild. I congratulate you on your successes in pizza and in being a content creator. I wish you greater success and more success in the future. Stay awesome! Most importantly... thank you for providing your amazing presence and charm in all that you do as well as provide a welcoming and fun community.

Farmers Markets

John B. Marine | 10/08/2023 01:35:00 AM | | | | Be the first to comment!
If you want quality food and fresh ingredients, you may want to visit a farmers market. Rather than the usual processed food, a farmers market offers edibles made from fresh ingredients from outsourced farms. So you know you are getting quality produce and other items from quality sources. I'll be discussing farmers markets in this blog post. If this sort of thing interests you, perhaps I can pique your interest with this blog post. Let's get it!

Farmers Markets

I was kind of inspired to blog about this post when I visited the doctor's office recently. When I was having blood work done, I heard about a Houston Farmers Market in downtown that I didn't know we have. Let me set the tone for this discussion of farmers markets...

farmers market
^ from: (Houston Chronicle) - Farm-to-market goodness happens with farmers markets. Enjoy the quality produce and other edibles only farmers markets can provide and from the farms that make it happen.

A farmers market offers up quality produce and other edibles sourced from farms and other local sources. These are products straight from the farm to market. You won't find anything that you may find at your average grocery store as opposed to a farmers market. It is possible you may even get unique produce, meals, spices, seasonings, and more that no grocery store or general store could ever sell at a farmers market. For example, a farmers market may sell raw honey or maybe some unique spices and seasonings you can put on your food.

A lot of times, a farmers market is often well away from most urban locales. So you will probably have to go out into rural locations or even to certain farmlands not in any serious urban settings. However, urban areas will have certain conventions and events serving up farm-to-market produce and other items so you don't have to venture out to rural locales or suburbs outside of big cities. The quality of farm-to-market produce remains the same and with the same quality than if you ventured out into rural settings.

In a lot of cases, farmers market produce and goods are more fresh than any average grocery store's offerings. Some farmers market produce can even be healthier for you than a lot of grocery store goods. Their existence can be pretty beneficial in these regards. Having abundant produce and livestock is paramount to farmers markets being successful.

My Own Farmers Market Experiences.

Here in the Houston/Galveston area, the farmers market I know best is Frobergs Farms in Alvin, Texas, USA. I personally have not been to Froberg's in quite a few years, but I do remember seeing the many different farm-to-market produce it offers. There is even a strawberry field where one could pick out strawberries. Froberg Farms also has a smokehouse where you can purchase some good meat products. I know them best for their delicious cheddar sausage. I believe it is called Greak's Smokehouse.

Farmers Market Considerations.

The one thing I would probably consider a negative of farmers markets is some of their food possibly being raw. So you may be mindful of food illnesses and airborne illnesses should you consume their produce. You may need to properly cook everything and prepare everything so you will reduce the risk of any sort of food poisoning.

If there is a case where there is a drought or various other conditions that hamper farms being able to make such produce, these farmers markets can stumble. They need as many different resources to make their produce properly. A farmers market can not generate business without sufficient resources.

Should You Visit a Farmers Market?

I say you should visit a farmers market to enjoy quality produce and some unique edibles. It may a lot different if you are used to supermarkets, but you can still get some great produce and other things for your home. Enjoy the farm fresh experience that these farm-to-market farmers markets provide.

That concludes this post! Care to discuss? Here's my question to you:

Have you been to a farmers market? How do you feel about the experience of a farmers market?

Air Fryers and Air Frying

John B. Marine | 3/21/2023 01:30:00 AM | | | | Be the first to comment!
(UPDATED: May 24, 2023)

Air fryers have been all the cooking rage lately. The range of foods you can cook and prepare are vast. Those against air fryers say they are glorified convection ovens. I'll blog about air fryers for you and maybe convince you to get one... if I like them. I invite you to read my blog post regarding air fryers in case you are interested about air fryers.

LATEST UPDATE(S)/REVISION(S)...

MAY 24 2023 - a few edits made

Air Fryers at a Glance

Air fryers have exploded in popularity for their ease of use and for the different foods you can prepare. They have become a healthy cooking alternative for preparing food without the need for oil. They use heating elements to cook food despite the "fryer" in their name. You can still put in oil and seasoning(s) for food, but this isn't a deep fryer, griller, skillet, or anything like that. Most air fryers can cook for temperatures as low as 200°F and as high as 400°F. An air fryer can also be used to defrost or thaw certain foods.

The meal options for air fryers can range from leftover cold food to some other foods. Some food in an air fryer some people may not even know is possible. For example, I once prepared hard boiled eggs in an air fryer. It is possible to even cook rotisserie chicken or crabs. To help in giving people ideas for air frying, there are a number of air fryer magazines and cookbooks to buy. A handful of websites and online videos also help give people some air frying recipes and instructions.

An air fryer is able to prepare some meals for longer than a microwave but shorter than a stove. If you are unsure of the cooking temperatures or times for an air fryer, the usual rule of thumb is to take 25% of the oven cooking temperature and 50% of the cooking time. So (for example) if a meal is to be cooked at 425°F for 20 minutes, an air fryer can prepare the same meal at 400°F for 10 minutes. Getting optimal cooking for a lot of meals may suggest you flip over or shake whatever is in the air fryer. For oven-type air fryers, you may need to rotate tray(s) at halfway or at certain points.

Popular manufacturers of air fryers include the likes of PowerXL, Ninja Kitchen, Cosori, and KALORIK. Even the famous chef, Emeril Lagasse, has his own air fryer- the Emeril Air Fryer 360. However, lesser brands also make their own air fryers. Most air fryers can begin at a price of about $40 USD but can rise to almost $200 USD (and sometimes above $200 USD). Air fryers can be as small as two quarts but can go much greater to cook more food and some bigger food items.

Now that you know about air fryers in general, let's explore the different kinds of air fryers.

Air Fryer Types

Allow me to share certain types of air fryers:

Basket Air Fryers.

air fryer
^ from: High Street TV - The most common air fryers are of the basket variety. An air fryer can open you up to many cooking opportunities.

The most common air fryers are of the basket variety. A basket-style air fryer allow you to drop in food to be heated. These air fryers consist of a basket and a drip pan. The drip pan is where the different juices fall to after cooking. To open a basket-type air fryer, remove the basket by pulling out the basket from the handle. Dump in whatever food you want to put into it. Once you have everything set up, put the whole assembly- basket and drip pan back into the air fryer.

Cooking advice for a basket air fryer is to stop the air fryer at halfway to either shake the air fryer or flip over foods in the air fryer.

Air Fryer Ovens and Air Fryer Toaster Ovens.

air fryer toaster oven
^ from: Walmart - Oven-type air fryers lack the convenience of basket-type air fryers, but the range of foods you can prepare is greater.

Oven-type air fryers allow you to cook more food at a time, and you can even use some extra features not possible with a basket air fryer. Air fryer ovens allow you to use a tumbler or even use some forks for rotisserie chicken. Use the tumbler for food like French fries or tater tots. Use the rotisserie tools for rotisserie chicken. Getting a bigger air fryer will allow you to cook more food at a time. In addition, you can utilize the use of trays in an oven air fryer to cook food with. Place the tray higher up to be closer to the top heating element. Or, you may opt to put one tray near the bottom heating element in case you want the bottom heating element to be used. You may also need to rotate the tray(s) for an even cook of food.

If you have an air fryer oven but prefer having an air fryer basket, you can purchase air fryer kits that include an air fryer basket that can fit into your air fryer oven.

Air Fryer Pressure Cookers.

air fryer pressure cooker
^ from: QVC - Some air fryers are also pressure cookers, such as this one.

If you use something like an Instant Pot, this style of air fryer may be familiar to you. In addition to pressure cooking, you can air fry in these devices. You may even be better able to air fry whole chickens in them. You may also be able to cook more items in more layers in this style air fryer. This would be a great air fryer to use if you want to prepare things like rice, mixed vegetables, boiled eggs, and more while also still using it to air fry food.

Air Frying Stoves/Ovens?

air fryer stove
^ from: Frigidaire - Some stoves have air frying modes.

Some stoves of late have air frying capabilities. Therefore, you can do your air frying with a stove rather than have a proper air fryer to cook with. The advantage to this is being able to prepare more food for more people than with a basic air fryer or air fryer oven. Plus, you still can use your stove for basic cooking.

My Air Fryer Experience.

I started to become more interested in cooking around September 2021. My air fryer interests were starting to grow over the coming months. I first got to make my first toaster oven meal in December 2021, which was a grilled cheese sandwich. Later that month, I made my first air fryer meal- a grilled cheese sandwich with chopped pieces of cocktail shrimp. The ease of use of the air fryer got me to stick with the air fryer for my meals. I started using the air fryer more often to expand my array of meals to cook. I started to share more of my meals on Facebook based on videos I've seen and recipes I followed from websites and online videos.

The air fryer I use is a PowerXL Vortex with about 5 quarts of space. My household also has a PowerXL Vortex Pro air fryer which has not been used. I have been fairly happy using PowerXL products for air frying. However, I have looked at Ninja or Cosori air fryers if I were to choose a separate brand.

Now that you been briefed on air fryers, let's talk about why they are so appealing and what gives them their appeal.

Why Air Fryers?

What makes air fryers a big deal? For one, I consider the air fryer an upgrade over the microwave. An air fryer can cook food better than in the microwave. Most foods that come from the microwave may be soggy and not have as much a crispy texture. If you are defrosting or reheating leftover food, air frying can make food crispy and tasty much better and safer than in a microwave.

Foods prepared in the air fryer can cut down calories and sodium after cooking. Some air fryers claim to reduce as much as 70% of calories and even cut down on sodium when air frying foods. Air fryers, therefore, can offer a healthy way of cooking.

Some foods cook better and take shorter amounts of time to prepare. For foods you normally can't microwave, an air fryer is a viable alternative. Air frying is great for meals such as Mozzarella sticks, tater tots, French fries, chicken wings, and more. You may even find some foods may be better and more fun to prepare in an air fryer than a microwave or stove. One thing I can tell you right away is that bread cooks very quickly in an air fryer. Bread products can be just as toasty as putting them in a toaster... even if you normally can't toast some breads!

Air fryers, as mentioned before, can also be used to defrost or thaw certain foods. They can also be a great way to reheat cold, leftover food. An air fryer can reheat leftovers almost to their original crispiness and taste. It can perform this task more masterfully than you could with a microwave. For example, you would be surprised how well a slice of pizza would cook in an air fryer as opposed to in the microwave.

For places that don't allow for stoves or ovens to be in the building, an air fryer can be a great way to enjoy quality meals without relying on the microwave. If you have a portable generator or a vehicle that has its own power unit, you could even prepare food in an air fryer when not in front of a stove or microwave. They also take up less space. Air fryers also don't heat up the kitchen as much as a stove can.

These are among some of the many reasons people enjoy air fryers. A microwave is more convenient and actually uses less electricity than an air fryer, but air fryers can do so much better cooking than a microwave can do.

Air Fryer Hints

While an air fryer can be great for cooking, you need to be mindful of a few things to safely and properly use your air fryer. A few hints will be mentioned in this section. Take a look at these bits before you consider getting an air fryer:

This first point I have no personal experience with, but I want to share it anyways...

• Properly clean a brand-new or unused air fryer. If you have a brand-new air fryer, it is recommended you clean the inside and its parts thoroughly to get out the plastic taste of food from the air fryer. A lot of websites and online videos you do various test cooks for a total of about one hour or an hour in 15-minute intervals. If there are still plastic smells, you may need to consult the manufacturer of your air fryer or simply get a new one. It is probably also recommended to do a sample air fry to test it out. You can simply air fry a slice of bread for a test.

• Some surfaces can crack from air frying! I heard of how placing an air fryer on some surfaces (such as marble counter tops) while cooking can damage or crack certain surfaces. If you feel squeamish about this, place your air fryer on top of some sturdy surface (like a wooden chop board) to prevent certain surfaces from getting cracked or damaged. If possible, you may need to do your air frying outside of the kitchen (or even outdoors).

• Use aluminum foil or parchment paper if you want to make cleanup easier. I always use either aluminum foil or air fryer liners to make cleanup easier. Food that is air fried usually has juices that go down below the air fryer basket. Aluminum foil is great enough to cook with without fearing getting the bottom dirty or greasy. It is best to use parchment paper for breads or certain foods that aren't greasy or messy when cooked.

• Certain oven-safe items can be used in your air fryer. For better cooking, you can use air fryer pans, silicone pads, and more for cooking. Certain air fryer pans can be good for preparing things like omelets, egg bites, and more. I even saw you can use aluminum foil pans for air frying while researching this topic. You will need to look online for what items can be safe to put in your air fryer for cooking. Some items that may not be air fryer friendly can damage your air fryer or even burn up your air fryer.

• Try to keep food in one layer, and space out individual portions for even cooking. If you have a bag of tater tots, French fries, chicken wings, mixed vegetables, or anything like that; it is great practice to keep everything in one layer. If you are preparing more of one item, you may need to prepare them in batches. This is especially if you have a smaller air fryer. Also, you may need to try to space out individual portions so they cook easier. DO NOT crowd or completely fill up the air fryer.

• Be mindful of the speed of air fryers. An air fryer uses a lot of hot air and some fans to cook food. Therefore, it is important to keep the heating element(s) free to properly operate. Some food cooked in the air fryer may emit some steam. This is perfectly fine. However, black smoke could mean the air fryer may be burning. Also, because of the furious speed of how air fryers work, lighter items can fly off of cooked food. So you will need to weigh down some lighter items like pepperoni on pizza or bacon. You can use certain air fryer racks to weigh down some items.

• Be mindful of smoke points. Although air fryers cook without oil, you can still use certain oil and some products in an air fryer. Invest in certain spray oils with smoke points greater than 400°F. Examples of good oils to use in an air fryer include canola oil, avocado oil (which I use), grapeseed oil, coconut oil, and ghee. Some people even suggest you use spritzers to lightly oil food because it's healthier. While non-sticking spray on the air fryer basket can help food from sticking, it is perhaps better to use oils with a high smoke point.

• Wash your air fryer basket regularly. If a lot of food and grease get on your air fryer basket, you will need to clean it regularly. It is recommended you clean your air fryer basket after every use. The metal basket can be detached from the inside of the bottom part of the air fryer. I often clean the metal element of the air fryer basket and the inside of the air fryer basket can be cleaned with dishwashing soap on a sponge or cleanser. Use that along with running water to clean them.

Now that you know about some of the tidbits about air fryers, I now will provide some final thoughts.

Air Fryers: Final Thoughts

Air fryers likely will not replace many of your cooking appliances. However, they can carry the same level of quality (if not better) than your toaster, microwave, BBQ grill, or stove. The ease of use for air fryers can make cooking fun. If you want to cook more than what can be cooked in a microwave but do not want to risk burning down the house with a stove, an air fryer is a safe and great middle ground for cooking. Lots of people whom I have chatted with about air fryers have been mostly satisfied because of the ease of use with an air fryer and how well you can cook food with them. Air fryers, however, will not replace all of your appliances. Some foods cook better in other devices than in the air fryer. Most air fryers even are great mostly for one or two people. Cooking for larger audiences can take longer or may require something better and more efficient than an air fryer. As with any appliance, proper care and maintenance are required to keep your air fryer in tip-top shape.

Personally, I think if you are on the fence about getting an air fryer, or if you are gifted an air fryer and unsure as to whether or not to keep/use it; I suggest you get an air fryer. The cooking options and array of meals you can prepare are much more than a microwave and much safer than using a stove. The air fryer will not replace your microwave, but it is an upgrade over the microwave. You can get yourself either a basket air fryer or an oven air fryer. While I do not recommend them, you can even get stoves that have air frying capabilities if you so fancy them and still want to use your stove for basic cooking. If you want inspiration or meal ideas, use various websites and look at various online videos. You may also buy air fryer cookbooks. Air fryers may even come with their own cookbooks when you purchase one.

Keep on air frying! :)

Compound Butter

John B. Marine | 10/13/2021 10:53:00 AM | | Be the first to comment!
(UPDATED: October 15, 2021)

On October 12, 2021; I made my first compound butter. Compound butter is essentially flavored butter consisting of butter mixed with different ingredients. They are mostly used to drizzle onto meats or breads. I took the opportunity to practice making compound butter. Through the course of this blog post, I will showcase my attempt at making compound butter. So if you are interested, keep reading this post!

Compound Butter

Compound butter allows you to take some of your favorite ingredients and put them into a butter mixture. You can find a handful of compound butter recipes online or even in online videos. You can kind of think of compound butter as "on demand" seasoning or drizzling of a certain flavor on various foods. One site I visited recently even called compound butter as "flavor bombs" to enhance certain foods. Some grocery stores even sell ready-made compound butters that can be dolloped on foods or even be used as dips or sauces.

My Own Compound Butter Journey.

I wanted to practice making compound butter. When I shown my mother my cheesy dip recipe I prepared, I was asked if I could freeze or refrigerate it. That got me to wonder how I could pull off doing a compound butter that I could melt at any time. So I started watching (actually, re-watching) videos I've seen about compound butter and compound butter recipes.

I then went ahead and picked up a stick of unsalted butter from a freezer in my house. Now normally, cooks suggest you use unsalted butter and then put in as much or as little salt as you want. However, I wanted to practice properly making compound butter, so I went with an unsalted stick of butter. I let the stick of butter sit out for about an hour before preparing the compound butter. I got out a plastic bowl to mix in the butter with other ingredients. I just took the entire stick of butter and put it into the bowl. Next came all of the seasonings I put together: garlic parsley seasoning and Italian seasoning. I also practiced using measuring cups. So what I did was take a tablespoon of both the garlic parsley seasoning and pour it into the bowl. I then proceeded dumping a tablespoon of Italian seasoning into the bowl.

The next parts were kind of rough. I took a rubber spatula and chop up the butter. I felt it was taking a bit long, so I ended up using a metal whisk next. That just meant I had to keep shoveling out the butter pieces. I then eventually got to mix up the butter just enough so all the seasonings were mixed in. On a piece of plastic wrap (parchment paper also works), I scooped up the mixed butter and wrapped it up into a log. I firmly pressed down to try to build a mold I could shape into a log. Fearing it wouldn't be hard enough to put in the refrigerator, I put the compound butter into the freezer for two hours.

I later tried my compound butter by preparing a piece of grilled chicken fillet. I cut two small pieces of my compound butter to be used on the chicken. The compound butter melted nicely in the microwave and came out very good! I later tried this with a roll, and that went well also. I could taste and smell the garlic. I did very good!

Making Compound Butter: Post-Mortem.

I was ultimately proud of the compound butter I created. However, I realize a few things. For one, I probably could let the butter sit out for longer (maybe one and a half hours), or I could cut up the softened butter to make it easier to apply the seasoning to. One other thing I failed to realize- I forgot to put cheese into my mixture! Before using the salted butter stick, I found that there was a non-salted butter stick in the freezer of my refrigerator. Maybe I'll use the unsalted butter next time I prepare a compound butter. I probably realize I could try more fresh ingredients for better taste. Thing is, I am not much an outgoing person, and I only use what was available to me throughout the house.

Because I was successful in making one compound butter, I became interested in trying some different compound butters. I even thought of a spicy recipe as well as one involving honey. Always keep experimenting, foodies!

Making Compound Butter: Round 2!

Let me share my latest attempt. I went ahead and used a stick of unsalted butter this time. I let the butter melt for an hour and a half. I did put the butter in the butter drawer of the refrigerator before preparing. The butter was much softer to work with than my previous attempt. This also meant it would be easier to stir in the contents. Unlike the previous attempt, I added cheese. I was able to get in a lot of butter to mix. Though my previous butter mixture hardened nicely after two hours or so, I tried to put it into the refrigerator and not the freezer this time. It was still rather soft after being chilled in the refrigerator after four hours. So I may stick to putting it into the freezer and then transfer it from the freezer to the refrigerator.

Now that you have seen my post regarding compound butters, maybe I've gotten you to try your own. The next section will help you get started. You may skip the next section entirely if you are not interested in the content provided.

Saucy!

John B. Marine | 9/29/2021 02:53:00 PM | | Be the first to comment!
(UPDATED: September 30, 2021) My culinary interests are varied. Recently, though, I have developed interest in making sauces and dips. I am mostly relying on seasonings and whatever edibles I have around the house. So for this blog post, I want to share some of the sauces and dips I've tried to make. I also want to share some general thoughts and putting together these sauces and dips. So I'm certain you foodies can appreciate this upcoming blog post.

Before I Begin...

I don't know how healthy any of these experimental dips are that I made, but I made them to try to find new ways to jazz up food I eat. I can't guarantee any of these will be healthy for you to eat. So follow these cautiously if you are indeed following my recipes.

LATEST UPDATE(S)/REVISION(S)

SEP 31 2021 - added more material, edited post, included recipes so you can see what I have attempted in my dip/sauce making

Saucy!

Allow me to tell my story on making sauces and dips.

Earlier this month, I thought about preparing some kind of dip or sauce to compliment things I normally eat. It began when my mother bought some compound butter dollops made of garlic and herbs. Those dollops are totally delicious melted as a dip or when melting on non-breaded meat. So I began thinking about if I had non-breaded meats to try the compound butter on. Examples include grilled chicken, grilled fish, grilled or cocktail shrimp... basically any non-fried meats. This then led me to think of a dip I wanted to experiment making.

As I attempted to make and test my creations, I used whatever really was available. I tried things like fast food biscuits or fried chicken to dip into my sauces.

My Butter-Based Sauces of Mine.

The COVID19/Coronavirus pandemic has caused a lot of us to try to find new things to do or learn while the pandemic rages on. One thing I looked at was enhancing my culinary skills a bit. My entry into the culinary arts was in trying to develop my own sauces and dips for basic food I eat. I sometimes on Facebook made my "Food Friday" posts devoted to food, drink, and all things related. Most of my posts related to video recipes on YouTube. We all know there are many delicious meals out there. Often times, what can make some meals better is sauces, dips, and other condiments to enhance the flavor. That is where I come in with trying my own sauces and dips.

My first attempt consisted of this experimental recipe: spread butter, honey, garlic powder, and Kosher salt. I started off placing pieces of spread butter from a margarine tub into a small dish. I then melted the combination in a microwave for about 15 or 20 seconds. I never realized how quickly butter can melt in a microwave, especially after a good amount of time cooled in a refrigerator. This first attempt I did turned out pretty well.

Then, I decided to change up the recipe. I didn't really taste the honey, so I let that go along with having salt. I then tried mostly a combination of butter, cheese, and garlic powder. Trying to get this one right was hit-and-miss. One problem I sort of noticed was that the cheese didn't melt well (I used shredded cheese originally). I then tried powdered Cotija cheese. Instead of about 30 seconds in the microwave to melt, I then went to a full minute. The melted cheese can be a bit tough to wash out when done with the dish. I was trying to find the best balance of butter and cheese with a kick of garlic with the revised butter-based dip.

I am still trying to perfect the recipe as much as I can. I don't want to do anything fancy like use a stove or an air fryer. I am just going with what I know and trying not to burn the house down from the oven. What I've seen in various YouTube videos was seeing entire sticks of butter melted in a pan over a stove or on a small oven. What I want to be able is possibly have a creamy cheese and butter concoction I could dip things like breadsticks or maybe some non-fried shrimp in.

I found that the cheese will take longer to melt compared to the butter. I'm trying to achieve a creamy balance of cheese and butter while also offering some garlic flavor.

My Mayonnaise-Based Sauces and Dips.

After I made a butter-based dip, I had two ideas for mayonnaise-based dips. The first one I tested was recently (as in September 28, 2021) with an experimental recipe. I combined mayo, garlic parsley powder, and honey. I then mixed everything. It came out pretty well as I tried it on some Popeye's biscuits (the best fast food biscuits in my view). I could taste some of the honey along with the mayo.

The next one I want to try involves Tajin seasoning. If you don't know what Tajin is, this is a popular seasoning that is mildly spicy with a kick of lime. I had Tajin on elotes (Mexican street corn) before. I am normally not the spicy food type. However, I could see this sauce working if I wanted a little spicy kick.

I also wanted to go the two-ingredient route. So I was also looking at mixing mayonnaise with garlic parsley seasoning. I may, though, want to add something like chopped chives for a little texture.

The good thing about mixing mayo-based sauces is that you normally do not need to heat up anything. Just add the ingredients and mix well. You may need a mixer or a blender if you're preparing a copious amount of such sauces. It can be very simple preparing any mayo-based dips. Just look around for stuff to prepare the sauces with.

UPDATE! (September 30, 2021)
I tried two more experimental mayonnaise-based dips. The first one I tried was to be a spicy mayo-based dip. I wanted it to be spicy without being overly so. That is why I love Tajin. Tajin seasoning offers a spicy kick without overdoing it. It also has a hint of lime. Tajin is also a good bit healthy as it is low in sodium. As my mother prepared spaghetti, I found out we had a lot of Romano cheese from when my parents went to Olive Garden. The packs of Romano cheese was still good, and so I implemented that into my spicy mayo dip. I tried it out, and it came out fairly well. I could taste the Tajin seasoning as well as the Romano cheese. It had a mild spiciness to it along with a hint of cheesy flavor. I tested this with some grilled chicken fillets and a Popeye's buttermilk biscuit.

The other mayo-based dip I created is more of using garlic. I used garlic parsley seasoning, Italian seasoning, and Olive Garden Romano cheese for this one. The combination came out pretty nicely when I tried it with some grilled chicken fillets and a Popeye's buttermilk biscuit.

Lessons Learned from Sauce and Dip Making.

I realize I could have better results with fresh ingredients and even if doing a little heating. However, simplicity is always something to achieve with things like this. I still will try to perfect sauce and dip ideas as much as I can. I also didn't think about preparing any specific measurements of these items.

The next section is voluntary to participate in. If you do not wish to take part in the next section, you can just skip ahead to the section afterwards.

The Pioneer Woman

John B. Marine | 1/29/2020 09:46:00 PM | | | Be the first to comment!
Ree Drummond is "The Pioneer Woman." The native Oklahoman provides her cooking and life insights in her delightful show of the same name. This blog post will feature this fascinating woman and a little insight into her cooking. Most of this post is fairly brief and casual. Yet still, I'm providing it to all of you fine folks who have supported my blog(s) for the longest. So enjoy this one (or try to)!

Before I Begin...

First JBS blog post of 2020! Happy New Year!

The Pioneer Woman

Allow me to blog about this fine lady.

Pioneer Woman Ree Drummond
^ from: (Twitter) - Ree Drummond- the "Pioneer Woman."

The Pioneer Woman is one Ree Drummond. The (born: January 6, 1969-year old) was born in Bartlesville, Oklahoma, USA. She showcases her work through her Food Network show as well as in her blogging. Ree often says she produces food that has to be approved by her family and by herself. She's a country girl- even down to owning a ranch. Her insight and stories are quite fun on "The Pioneer Woman."

I think Ree Drummond's personality is as wonderful as when Food Network had popular personalities like Paula Deen and Rachael Ray. I am talking about in a time where Food Network had more basic cooking shows rather than mostly reality TV shows or food competitions. Ree is quite beautiful! I have tried some of the food products The Pioneer Woman has sold in Wal-Mart stores. The one I have loved most has been her Chicken Alfredo Bake. The packaged Chicken Alfredo Bake is not too tricky to prepare, but when fully prepared, it is delicious! A member of my family has a lot of kitchen utensils from The Pioneer Woman. There are many other products in stores marketed by The Pioneer Woman.

Video Insight.

This video I am featuring is a sample of The Pioneer Woman. It is an idea of some of the personality and charm Ree provides in her recipes and episodes. Have a look at Ree offering one of her recipes here:

What I Would Tell the Pioneer Woman?

Ree, your work is amazing! I enjoy the personality and charm you add to your meals and your various shows. Keep up the great work!

Would I want to Meet the Pioneer Woman?

Sure! Ree seems very sweet and humble. I'd say she's a lovely person to meet.

Michael Angelo's Meal Roundup

John B. Marine | 6/12/2019 07:45:00 PM | | | Be the first to comment!
I decided to blog a roundup of Michael Angelo's dinners I've had before. I am not new to Michael Angelo's different meals, this is a roundup of different dinners I've had from the Austin, Texas, USA-based Michael Angelo's. To give you an idea of some of Michael Angelo's meals, I figured I share this roundup of their meals.

Before I Begin...

All of the mentioned dinners were prepared via microwave. All of these are also starter meals. I am basing my opinions on these experiences. These opinions are of my own. I was not contacted by the company to review anything. I did this all on my own.

Michael Angelo's Meal Roundup

Let's talk dinner! Even though I prepared all of these meals via microwave, it is recommended they are prepared via oven. It is this versatility of oven and microwave, however, that makes these meals enticing. So you can prepare these meals even if you fear burning the house down with an oven. And as Michael Angelo's would say, "microwaves work, too. But would Nonna approve?" Michael Angelo's offer homemade meals with very delicious tasting meals and Italian style. I figured eventually to want to do a blog post rounding up a bunch of meals I've had recently from Michael Angelo's. I hope you enjoy my blog post and my reviews!

Michael Angelo's Chicken Piccata.

^ The Chicken Piccata is white meat chicken breast smothered in lemon garlic butter sauce and met with artichokes, tomatoes, and capers.

My favorite of these five dinners I am to feature is the chicken piccata. This was the first Michael Angelo's meal I've had. The chicken piccata then was one that could be a single-serving meal. For the longest, though, this meal was served only as a meal starter and meant for more than one person. Even when you prepare it, the smell of this meal is just amazing. The chicken is absolutely delicious bathed in the garlic sauce. Adding things like the artichokes and capers make it just as delicious. This meal will NOT disappoint. Even Michael Angelo's themselves say this is a favorite meal. This meal can be prepared between eight to ten minutes in a microwave. I prepare it in nine minutes in the microwave.

Michael Angelo's Spicy Chicken Marinara.

^ The white meat chicken breast of the Spicy Chicken Marinara is cooked until golden brown. Then, it is met with spicy vine-inspired tomato sauce.

Bathed in marinara sauce with a spicy kick to it, the Spicy Chicken Marinara is a tasty starter meal from Michael Angelo's. The spicy nature is not extreme in any real sense, but you do get the spicy taste while digging into the chicken. You don't have much in the way of vegetables or anything to add with the chicken. I think this is pretty good. Normally, I am not much the spicy food person. This is still a great meal to dig into.

Michael Angelo's Chicken Bruschetta.

^ The Chicken Bruschetta has white meat chicken cooked until a golden brown. Then, the chicken is smothered in diced tomatoes, basil, and balsamic vinegar.

Chicken Bruschetta by Michael Angelo's features some great-tasting chicken along with cheese slices and tomatoes. This starter meal tastes very good. The chicken is cooked until golden brown. Then, it is topped off with a combination of diced tomatoes, basil, and vinegar. The chicken itself is very tasty. Adding in the different other ingredients just make it better.

Michael Angelo's White Wine Lemon Chicken.

^ This chicken meal features breaded white meat chicken covered in a white wine and lemon sauce. Spinach, carrots, and capers compliment the chicken.

Here is a starter meal with chicken bathed in some buttery garlic sauce that also have white wine infused. Add a lot of vegetables to it, and let me tell you- this one is DELICIOUS! Spinach and carrot slices are added to the mix. This meal offers the most protein of the featured meals in this blog post with 16 grams of protein to be had. I sometimes pile on some of the extra spinach and shredded carrots on top of the chicken to eat together. Trust me- the White Wine Lemon Chicken is an amazing taste experience.

Michael Angelo's Spicy Shrimp Scampi.

^ This meal features plump shrimp and linguine pasta. It is then smothered in garlic butter sauce with Calabrese peppers.

I am a chicken lover. However, I wanted to mix things up by having a starter meal from Michael Angelo's other than chicken. So I chose their Spicy Shrimp Scampi. Many times before, my mother prepared some mean shrimp scampi. I never had SPICY shrimp scampi, though. I thought this was a fairly good meal. You taste the spiciness early when you eat the first few noodles or even one of the pieces of shrimp. I am personally not much into the meal, but I did enjoy this meal.

This concludes my roundup of five these meals. A few extra thoughts are coming up.

Michael Angelo's Meals: Final Thoughts

Michael Angelo's offer a number of different tasty meals. They pride themselves on offering quality Italian style cuisine with a real homemade style. The meals offered will surely suppress your hunger with great-tasting food. Even if you are not adept with using an oven, you can still prepare these foods in the microwave. All of these are enjoyable meals just as good in a microwave as they are in an oven. So feel free to enjoy these meals for lunch and/or dinner.

Ranking the Five Meals.

I am not in any way trying to rank these five meals, but if I did, allow me to rate them all.

• My favorite of the five I featured is the Chicken Piccata. I love it for its rich taste and overall delicious experience. It also takes the least amount of time to prepare at about nine minutes in the microwave.

• My second favorite is the White Wine Lemon Chicken. This one actually surprised me because I never thought this would taste so delicious. It also offers the most protein with 16 grams of protein. I really like this meal. While I don't drink or smoke, I do like wine and champagne, and I certainly like white wine. This meal is my second favorite, but a VERY close second.

• Chicken Bruschetta is my third favorite. It is tasty while offering 14 grams of protein. I thought it was a great taste experience and would certainly recommend.

• The fourth favorite of mine is the Spicy Chicken Marinara. The chicken was still good, but maybe I just wan't really into the spicy sort of kick to the chicken.

• Through process of elimination, you can tell my least favorite of the five is the Spicy Shrimp Scampi. It was a different experience to have

Just because I rate something as "least favorite" doesn't mean I hate any of these meals. Do not get me wrong on that. These are more about personal taste to me than saying one meal is worse than another. These are all fine meals that I mentioned here.

Some Bonus Commentary...

As a bonus piece of commentary, I once had Michael Angelo's Chicken Parmigiana. This was a LONG time ago, though, so this was not part of this roundup of meals.

If I could recommend a few things for Michael Angelo's, I would recommend making some of these starter meals as single-serve meals. Maybe these meals are meant to be starter meals, but they can also be tasty as single-serve meals like when I first had chicken piccata.
