Women in Gridiron Football

John B. Marine | 12/25/2023 06:16:00 PM | | | Be the first to comment!
Gridiron football is exciting to watch. It is such an intense and gritty sport. It's a real man's game. *record scratch* "Excuse me- MAN's sport? Us girls can play football too!" Women in gridiron football is nothing new. Even if women's gridiron football is not as popular as watching the boys play football, at least Girl Power can be had on the gridiron. To that end, allow me to blog about feminine football.

By the way... Merry Christmas, mates! :)

Women in Gridiron Football

Many people usually don't think females can hold their own in gridiron football. Some people may have their best memory of women in football with the popular Lingerie Bowl. That is not what I am going to discuss in this blog post. I'm talking about actual, lace-em-up, tackling gridiron football- just like the boys do.

Some people who follow college football may remember a young lady named Katie Hnida, who was a field goal kicker for the University of Colorado Buffaloes. She would later transfer to the University of New Mexico Lobos. Katie Hnida became the first female to play NCAA Division 1 football when she played back starting in 2002. A later woman would make her mark named Sarah Fuller (also a kicker) for the Vanderbilt University Commodores circa 2020.

In 2023, a woman in NCAA Division 3 school Shenandoah University became the first female non-kicker to play college football. Haley Van Voorhis played safety for the Shenandoah Hornets against the Eagles of Juniata College. Her team won that game 48-7.

Here in the Houston area, I recall a radio personality named Julie Takahashi who played for a local women's football team called the Houston Energy. This team would play their games at The Rig in Pearland, Texas, USA; usually home to the Pearland High School Oilers.

Could a Big Breakthrough for Women Happen in Gridiron Football?

Imagine the following things happening in top-level college football, professional arena football, or even the NFL:

• a female quarterback
• a female quarterback who leads her team [of males] to the postseason
• a female quarterback who wins a championship for her [male-dominant] team
• a female offensive coordinator, defensive coordinator, and/or even head coach of a playoff/postseason team
• an all-female coaching staff
• (perhaps) all-female offensive line, defensive line, special teams, two of the three, or all three... against an all-male team

Many of these concepts may seem far-fetched, but these are things that would certainly make female football fans happy. It would even be something of a cool story for males to want to get excited about. We have seen loads of feminine breakthroughs and trail blazers in many different arenas. Seeing such breakthroughs in gridiron football would be amazing.

Women's Football Leagues

I will briefly share some leagues that feature women's gridiron football. You can click on the headers to visit their official websites (if offered). Let me further expand this topic.

Women's Football Alliance.

The Women's Football Alliance (WFA) is one of the longest-running leagues dedicated to women's gridiron football. It was founded in 1999. Like certain collegiate athletics leagues, the WFA has divisions of competition. The WFA has an incredible 60 teams in this league. So you are probably sure you will find a team in your area in the United States.

Here is a sample of WFA Football:

^ WFA 2021 Promo

X League.

Unlike the WFA, the X League is an arena gridiron football league for women. There are only eight teams in this league spread across the United States. It was founded in 2009 as the Lingerie Football League. It was rebranded in 2013 as the Legends Football League. Its current name, the Extreme Football League (or X League), was established in 2020. The league has had here-and-there seasons. Some years had no season of X League football. As one can tell by its former names, this is a league lots of males (and perhaps some females as well) would love- a league with women passing and tackling in lingerie and in protective football gear.

Here is a sample of X League football:

^ X League | 2022 Season | X League on FAN PASS | LA Black Storm Highlights

These were the only two still-running leagues I could pull up. There were some women's football leagues others, but these leagues went defunct, so I didn't include them. Final thoughts coming up...

Women In Gridiron Football: Gridiron Football

Many sports fans usually discredit something like women in gridiron football much like how some dismiss the WNBA vs. the NBA. Some think the game of gridiron football is best played by males. Just the fact that women play gridiron football as competitively as the men do is worthy of praise. It is about expanding the sport and perhaps inspiring future generations of female football players. Even with the *male-dominated* realm of gridiron football, at least females shown they can play this sport as well as any male can. If women shown they can be great basketball players with the likes of the WNBA, women can also show they can play on or around the same level as males. Girls can play gridiron football just like the boys can. Put some respect on these ladies' names and give them their flowers. It's all about GIRL POWER to gridiron football!

NHL in Houston?

John B. Marine | 11/13/2023 11:49:00 PM | | | Be the first to comment!
Houston has teams like the Texans of the NFL, the Rockets of the NBA, the Astros of Major League Baseball, and Houston Dynamo FC of MLS. It once had a WNBA team called the Comets, and AHL hockey team called the Houston Aeros. Speaking of hockey, what if the city of Houston had an NHL team? Could top-level hockey succeed in Houston? I want to open this floor to discussion of if Houston had an NHL team. Let's get started!

BEFORE I BEGIN...

All of the material expressed in this post are mostly based on opinion and speculation. It is not entirely based on investigative reporting or deep research. Do not take too much of what you are about to read too seriously. This post is, however, professional enough to warrant proper discussion of the topic at hand.

NHL in Houston?

Houston Aeros
^ from: (Wikipedia) - Hockey in Houston was last possible with this team- the Houston Aeros. Could Houston join the NHL? Should the NHL go through Houston? This blog post of mine will share my innermost thoughts.

The National Hockey League is one of the most competitive and fun pro sports in America. While I don't watch hockey as much as I used to with the days of NBC Sports Network (NBCSN), I do watch hockey from time to time. I do love watching hockey. There were some plans for if/when the city of Houston has an NHL team. We did have the Houston Aeros of the WHA (World Hockey Association) and the AHL (American Hockey League) before they moved and rebranded as the Iowa Wild. I even been to the final-ever(?) game the Houston Aeros had in 2013 before moving to Iowa. We played against the San Antonio Rampage, and the Aeros won that night. I even saw a good hockey fight in that game! :)

To my knowledge, Houston never had an NHL team. According to the Houston Chronicle, Houston has been the largest city without an NHL team since 1967. We are a proud sports city with lots of talented players, teams, and sporting events. Houston has hosted events like the Super Bowl, the NBA Finals (in the "Clutch City" days), the MLB All-Star Game, the World Series, the College Football Playoff in 2024, the NCAA Men's Final Four, the MLS All-Star Game, some top-level soccer games, and even Wrestlemania among other sporting events. We're even hosting some games in the 2026 FIFA Men's World Cup here in Houston. Houston is currently buzzing with the Houston Texans and CJ Stroud, the Houston Rockets starting 2023-2024 from 0-3 to now 6-3 and a six game winning streak, and let's not forget the run the Astros have had since about 2016 and two World Series titles (2017 title controversial).

What if you're a hockey fan who wants to enjoy some hockey in Houston? You don't have that choice. There have been here-and-there rumblings of Houston getting an NHL team. What was the most likely scenario was if the Arizona Coyotes wanted to relocate. It may ultimately come down to if a completely new team joins the NHL like the league's most recent team, the Seattle Kraken. Who knows? Maybe Houston gets an NHL team and may one season hoist the beautiful Stanley Cup and become NHL champions. Possibilities are endless!

Let's think about the logistics of the NHL in Houston now.

NHL in Houston: Logistics

The City of Houston is a great place for sports, even if a lot of the sports teams haven't been too successful. Only a handful of American cities have franchises in the NFL, NBA, Major League Baseball, and the NHL. Houston is one of the largest and finest cities in America. Having an NHL hockey team would further solidify this city as a world-class city. Here are some talking points now.

Before I get into the logistics of an NHL team, let me address something I think will be a main talking point about Houston getting an NHL team:

Does Houston Deserved to be Considered a "Hockey Town?"

Some purists of NHL teams feel hockey only exists and only should exist in Frost Belt states or in Canada. Last I checked... places like Dallas, Tampa Bay, Arizona, Las Vegas, and Los Angeles aren't exactly Winter Wonderlands. Heck, I've even seen on the college front schools like Arizona State and Tennessee State with hockey teams. So what makes Houston less qualified a city if you think only actually cold places should have hockey teams compared to other cities that aren't exactly "Winter Wonderland" or "Hockey Cities?" It rarely snows in Arizona or Nevada, and I don't think Winter even exists in Florida. You could even put an NHL team in Hawaii/Hawai'i for all I care! As long as a team can be competitive and financially stable, any place can be worthy of an NHL franchise, including Houston.

People normally think Texas is a football state (and it still is). However, recent success of the Houston Astros winning two World Series and (cringe...) the Texas Rangers winning the 2023 World Series shows a recent trend of baseball success in the state of Texas. The Dallas Stars won it all in 1999. Who's to say maybe the Houston NHL team doesn't win a title as well should one form here?

Now that I cleared this up, let's talk about more important matters of the NHL in Houston.

Expansion or Relocated?

I feel there may be an expansion team more than a team relocating. I doubt some other team besides the Arizona Coyotes would be so disinterested in staying and decide to come to Houston. The last NHL such team I can remember relocating was when the Atlanta Thrashers moved out of Atlanta to become the Winnipeg Jets.

How about this for a weird scenario- the Oilers return to Houston! Only... they play hockey. Imagine if the Edmonton Oilers relocated to Houston and became the Houston Oilers. I know that will NEVER happen, but it's a weird concept. It's okay to be weird! :D

Team Name and Colors?

I wondered among my fellow Houstonians- do you bring back the Aeros but make them an NHL team name? Or do you go with some sort of team nickname unique to Houston and/or Texas? Do you also try not to use some overused nickname- such as all the Cougars, Tigers, Wildcats, Bulldogs, Eagles, Cardinals, and such in college sports?

Let's say Houston goes the route of unique and indigenous namesakes. When names were being decided for the name of Houston's new NFL team after the Houston Oilers moved out of Houston and became the Tennessee Titans, one of the team nicknames for the ultimately named Texans was the "Wildcatters." That's because one of Houston's nicknames is the "Wildcat City." Wildcatters sound kind of lame to me. Besides the University of Houston Cougars, we have one cat-themed team called the Sabercats of Major League Rugby. The NHL already has a cat team- the Florida Panthers. Surely a livestock-themed team would be completely indigenous to Houston and Texas. Or maybe Houston highlights on space exploration and name their team based on astronomy. We obviously can't be the Stars, because Dallas; and I am not sure using "Comets" would work since that was the name of Houston's WNBA team (I may discuss the Houston Comets in a future blog post). We also could name our team after our insights on energy and oil. I am not sure what a good nickname for Houston would be.

When I researched this topic, some suggested names for a Houston NHL team include the aforementioned Aeros. Also possible names are the Houston Stallions, the Houston Wranglers, and the Houston Bulls. Some people even believe the Coyotes would eventually relocate and become the Houston Coyotes.

Since the Houston Aeros of the WHA and AHL were the AHL affiliate of the Minnesota Wild, they had Wild colors- green, red, and white. Back in the WHA days, however, the Aeros wore a dark blue, a lighter blue, and white. Those are your three options- (1) bring back the blue and white colors, (2) bring back the green/red/white colors, or (3) come up with a completely different color scheme overall devoid of any WHA or AHL affiliations.

Potential Opponents and Conference?

One of the most obvious opponents for Houston's NHL team would be an in-state rivalry with the Dallas Stars. I could see a possible rivalry with the Arizona Coyotes since the Coyotes were long seen as a possible team. I could also see a rivalry with the Nashville Predators. Houston vs. Nashville is already apparent in the NFL with the Houston Texans and Tennessee Titans. However, I think the greater rival would be the Dallas Stars. We all know Houston-Dallas rivalries including the NBA's "Texas Triangle."

I am absolutely certain Houston would be in the Central Division of the NHL. This would give the Central Division nine teams while the other three divisions have eight teams each.

Arena?

The most likely home of the Houston NHL team would be Toyota Center. That's especially if Tillman Fertitta is funding everything the effort to bring the NHL to Houston.

Second most likely would be using an existing arena. Towards the sunset of the WNBA's Houston Comets, the Comets played at Reliant Arena (now NRG Arena). I am not sure if people would pack the house at NRG Arena as they would for almost any event at Toyota Center. The days of Six Flags Astroworld are [sadly] long gone. The Astros moved from the Astrodome to today's Minute Maid Park, the Houston Oilers moved from the Astrodome to Nashville and rebranded as the Tennessee Titans, and it is really the Houston Texans keeping alive the area now known as NRG Park. I also don't see even the Fertitta Center (formerly Hoffheinz Pavillion) hosting any hockey outside of it being the home of the University of Houston's basketball.

The most unlikely scenario would be a completely new, hockey-specific arena. For that to happen, the Houston NHL team would have to be so good that it gets its own arena and not have to share it with another Houston sports team. This is more down-the-road stuff.

Players and Coaching Staff?

The Vegas Golden Knights had a solid lineup for when they picked out their players for their maiden season in the NHL. I'd have to imagine the Houston NHL team would pick up either some talented free agents or some talented college or international players for their hockey team.

It may also be possible for having some unemployed coaches and coaching staff members help coach up a new Houston NHL team. If coaches see the potential to coach a young team starting up in Houston, that coach will surely take up on that offer and try to coach Houston to success.

Financial Feasibility?

A professional sports team will never prosper with unloyal fans and improper management. I'd have to wonder issues like taxation and such would be factors in determining whether an NHL hockey franchise will last as long as possible in Houston. A number of Houston natives and residents would lovingly support an NHL team here should one come to form both as a team and financially.

Another aspect on financial concerns would be in television deals. In 2023, it was announced that AT&T SportsNet Southwest would rebrand as the Space City Home Network (SCHN). SCHN is the television home of the Houston Rockets and the Houston Astros. I am probably sure it could serve as the home of the Houston NHL team as well. Of course, national broadcasts of Houston's NHL team would be on the likes of ESPN and TNT. Maybe also on the NHL Network.

Well, this was about as many things I could speculate on regarding the NHL in Houston.

Water Bottles

John B. Marine | 5/23/2023 11:12:00 PM | | Be the first to comment!
When temperatures rise or when you need to hydrate after exercise, water bottles help to keep you hydrated. Just fill them up with water and drink when thirsty. You could fill them up with water from home or from water fountains. It is best you use water bottles that are sturdy and that you can take around.

Water bottles come in a variety of sizes and styles. A basic water bottle can be plain colored, and more stylish ones can have fancy graphics to them. Some water bottles have either their own straw to sip from or have to be unscrewed to drink out of. It is even better to have a water bottle that is easy to drink out of. Find a water bottle that suits your needs and that you can carry around easily.

No matter what, be sure to get a water bottle to stay hydrated when it is warm outside or if you are trying to hydrate after exercise.

NBA2K League

John B. Marine | 6/23/2021 03:41:00 PM | | | Be the first to comment!
The NBA2K League is an eSports league featuring the best of the best in NBA2K. Watch as top-level NBA2K series players compete amongst themselves in fierce competition. This rising eSports league looks to get bigger and better in the coming years. While I do not know a whole lot about NBA2K League, I will make an effort to introduce and discuss this league to you all. So welcome to another post on "John's Blog Space!"

Before I Begin...

I am not at all educated about the NBA2K League series. Most of what I will be discussing is based on things I've learned from other people. I am also a perfectionist, so I have a LOT I feel I need to discuss to make a proper introduction to this league.

A Special Hello!

I want to extend a special hello to everyone affiliated with the NBA2K League- players, coaches, staff, management, and all. My name is John Marine, and I hope you enjoy your time here!

NBA2K League

Let me share as much as I can about NBA2K League through what I know and some extra research from other sites.

The NBA2K League is a professional gaming league that plays the NBA2K series from 2K Sports. It was founded in February 2017 and held its first season in May 2017. As of June 21, 2021; there are currently 23 teams in the NBA2K League. The series is currently in its 4th season as of 2021. All of the NBA2K League teams, except one, are actually affiliated with actual National Basketball Association teams.

Previously, NBA2K League has held its usual games at a studio in the New York City area. The NBA2K League players themselves along with many devoted fans (including family members) would fill the studio and cheer on their beloved players. Since the outbreak of COVID-19/Coronavirus, the studio hasn't been used after Season 2. There was instead remote play starting in Season 3. Season 3 had its start moved from March 2020 to May 2020 because of the pandemic. Season 4 has the NBA2K League players playing in the local markets of their affiliated teams.

NBA2K League used to play on custom PC builds of NBA2K. As of Season 4, all players are playing on PlayStation 5. So you get to enjoy next-gen power as the league proudly plays NBA2K 21!

Why NBA2K League?

So why should you care about NBA2K League? What's the real deal with this league? With all due respect, this is one TRUE eSport with an actual sport involved. It may be cool seeing games like League of Legends, any Call of Duty, Fortnite, or even Rocket League; all of which played competitively. However, NBA2K League is an eSport of an actual sport. The intensity and professionalism are real. The passion to win is real. NBA2K League may play games, but NBA2K League itself is NOT a game.

With the rise in popularity of NBA2K League, it can only get better. Say what you want about people playing video/computer games for money. Yes- actual cash is involved with these players. Tournaments with monetary prizes on the line are real in NBA2K League. Regardless, this is a competitive league that has a fun and engaging community.

Game Coverage.

NBA2K League broadcasts are showcased on Twitch, YouTube, SportsNet, Loco, and eGG Network. Select broadcasts were once shown on ESPN and ESPN2. The American broadcast of NBA2K League is handled by this commentary crew:

• Autumn Johnson: host/reporter
• Scott Cole: play-by-play
• Jamie "Dirk" Diaz Ruiz: analysis
• Harris Rubenstein: reporter of "Section 400"
• MADExINxINDIA: reporter
• Jeff Eisenband: "Behind the Screens" reporter
• BLKFrankWhite: host of "BFW Live" on Bud Light's Twitch channel

The show is hosted by Autumn Johnson. Autumn is a long-time reporter who has had segments on Twitch as well as on the likes of ESPN. She also hosts brief NBA2K League segments called "30 Seconds of Greatness," in which she asks an NBA2K League personality different rapid-rie questions to be answered within 30 seconds.

Scott Cole is a well-traveled broadcasting veteran who lends his unique play-by-play appeal to NBA2K League broadcasts. His résumé almost reads like an encyclopedia with coverage of football, basketball, and even NASCAR.

Jamie "Dirk" Diaz Ruiz has been a veteran commentator having covered several other eSports including NBA2K League. He provides the analysis for NBA2K League games. Dirk also has made a series of videos regarding the different archetypes of NBA2K League players.

Harris Rubenstein has his reports from "Section 400." Harris is way up in the [virtual] nosebleeds offering his reports. These reports range from conversations with personalities, responding to Chat comments, and even reporting on other games in progress.

On the reporting front, Autumn, Harris, and sometimes INDIA usually provide reports on players and teams as well as respond to Chat comments. Even yours truly had comments and questions responded to on the air or in Twitch chat. I promptly and politely shown my appreciation for the shout outs! :)

Special segments of "Behind the Screens" is hosted by Jeff Eisenband. These are more like special segments highlighting on the lives and personalities of NBA2K League personalities.

On Bud Light's Twitch channel, "BFW Live" is the pre-game show that is shown on Wednesdays. "BFW Live" is hosted by BLKFrankWhite and co-hosted by Harris Rubenstein (also known as "Sportstein"). This is the pre-game show which offers interviews with various NBA2K League personalities. WARNING: You must be at least 21 years of age to view content on Bud Light's Twitch channel.

The NBA2K League's Choc of Nets GC runs a popular show called "The Crossover." This show is hosted by Choc and features "DDouble" as a co-host. These two break down all of the games played (even including Choc's games played) and even discusses news topics around NBA2K League. There are sometimes even NBA2K League players who come into Chat and even on The Crossover to share their views about the league. You get a little of everything with this deal.

To add variety to NBA2K League broadcasts, Season 4 sees four days of certain features: Block Party Wednesdays, Bounce Pass Thursdays, Friday Night Fire, and Saturday Night Showdown. "Block Party Wednesday" is a night dedicated to drops in Chat. Fans are encouraged to type in certain codes to win gear from NBA2K League and other sources. Moderators in Chat then pick one individual to win the gear offered. "Bounce Pass Thursdays" gives fans the chance to pick what game they want to see of all the games playing. Think of it more like League Pass in the NBA. "Friday Night Fire" is highlighted by matches considered as the "GAME OF THE WEEK." Seeing those "GAME OF THE WEEK" matches lead to special drops similar to on Block Party Wednesdays. Finally, "Saturday Night Showdown" gives you some great NBA2K basketball action to close out the week.

My NBA2K League Testimonials.

I started watching NBA2K League in Season 2 in 2019. I began to enjoy the appeal of the league along with connecting with the personalities that make it happen. The first NBA2K League player I began to like was Dimez of Mavs Gaming. Dimez was the first superstar of the league and still remains a formidable talent today. Later seasons, I began to introduce myself to more of the other talents in the league. These talents include (but not limited to) Choc, Regg, Splashy, Mama Im Dat Man, oFAB, OneWildWalnut, Dayfri, Lord Beezus, Ramo, JBM, Shotz, SlayIsland, SAV, 630, and Jomar among many others.

One of the loveliest things about NBA2K League is about how the actual NBA2K League players may come into Chat, not to mention family members who cheer on NBA2K League players. The community has the feel of a down home environment though it is pro-level eSports gaming. So while this league is pro eSports league, it feels about as casual as parents seeing their child(ren) play sports in a neighborhood setting.

The Teams and Players.

The NBA2K League has 23 teams as I mentioned earlier. All of the NBA2K League teams, except one, are affiliated with actual NBA teams. The teams do take on names similar to the NBA teams they represent. For example, Mavs Gaming is affiliated with the Dallas Mavericks, Heat Check Gaming is affiliated with the Miami Heat, and Raptors Uprising GC is affiliated with the Toronto Raptors. The only team not affiliated with any actual NBA team is the Gen.G Tigers. Gen.G is a team from Shanghai, China; but they have affiliations in South Korea, Los Angeles, and recently moved to the University of Kentucky as their American home. The two youngest teams in the NBA2K League are in their sophomore seasons in 2021- Hornets Venom GT and Gen.G Tigers.

Here are all of the current teams:

• 76ers GC
• Blazer5 Gaming
• Bucks Gaming
• Cavs Legion GC
• Celtics Crossover Gaming
• Gen.G Tigers (no NBA affiliation)
• Grizz Gaming
• Hawks Talon GC
• Heat Check Gaming
• Hornets Venom GT
• Jazz Gaming
• Kings Guard Gaming
• Knicks Gaming
• Magic Gaming
• Mavs Gaming
• Nets GC
• Pacers Gaming
• Pistons GT
• Raptors Uprising GC
• T-Wolves Gaming
• Warriors Gaming Squad
• Wizards District Gaming

The inaugural champions of NBA2K League is Knicks Gaming. Season 2 saw T-Wolves Gaming win it all. The Season 3 champions (and current defending champions) is Wizards District Gaming. There has not yet been a repeat champion or even anything close to a dynasty.

The following NBA teams are not yet represented in NBA2K League, but I feel all 30 teams will eventually make up this league. Among the NBA teams not yet represented in NBA2K League as of 2021:

• Chicago Bulls
• Denver Nuggets
• Houston Rockets
• Los Angeles Clippers
• New Orleans Pelicans
• Oklahoma City Thunder
• Phoenix Suns
• San Antonio Spurs

Personal commentary... Obviously as a Houston sports fan, I'm sad Houston isn't represented. However, when I checked Twitter for the Houston Rockets' eSports league, Clutch City Gaming, most of the Tweets I've seen were from a few years ago. Maybe Clutch City Gaming could join NBA2K League by re-branding as (hypothetical name) Rockets Clutch Gaming. I'd love to see the "Texas Triangle" in NBA2K League with Houston, Dallas, and San Antonio.

The Players.

The players were once capped to 92 OVR. Starting in Season 4, players are now capped at 95 OVR. Double Takeover and Team Takeover are now possible to buff players and teams on a roll.

The NBA2K League players work closely with 2K Sports and the NBA2K team to help develop their characters as precisely as possible. They communicate a lot and share any number of issues regarding the league. They can even do things such as asking if something needs to be patched or anything, for example.

Many of the NBA2K League players got their start by doing well in various other NBA2K competitions before joining the NBA2K League draft. Usually, a prospective player would do have success in ProAm on Hall of Fame difficulty.

You too can be an NBA2K League player! A format unveiled in mid-late 2020 features NBA2K League teams hosting tryouts. These tryouts include a number of ProAm tournaments. Doing well can get you into the league through the NBA2K League Draft. And hopefully, us fans may be talking about YOU in Chat in games! :)

The 2021 NBA2K League draft was pretty diverse. Among the draftees are some international players and even two female players. Two of the three international draftees includes "Avemario" from Spain (on Cavs Legion GC) and Milo from Australia (on Kings Guard Gaming). There was another international draftee from the United Kingdom, but his name fails me creating this original blog post. Chiquitae was the first female player in NBA2K League, playing for Warriors Gaming Squad. The two new female players drafted are Ziah (on Mavs Gaming) and DjLayyy (on Celtics Crossover Gaming).

The Games.

NBA2K League plays four six-minute quarters. If needed, Overtime features sessions of three minutes. The games follow NBA-type rules. Players foul out on six fouls. However, instead of being taken out of the game, a Technical free throw is shot. There may be cases where the game may have to be restarted before of the game crashing or for issues like bad weather. If a game has been played but to be restarted, the game will be started and then end at a certain point.

Season 3 introduced a best-of-3 format. If you won the best-of-3 series, you get one official win. Losers of the best-of-3 series would get one official loss to their record. Season 4 now has two-game sets with about 32 games a week with about 16 teams playing a week.

The Tournaments.

Here is a look at some of the Tournaments in NBA2K League. I am only discussing this as best as I know it:

• The Tipoff:
The Tipoff is the opening tournament to tip off a new season of NBA2K League. Matches held here are in a best-of-3 round format.

• The Turn:
This was a unique tournament featuring best-of-3 rounds where teams choose to ban one certain archetype. For example, one team banned a two-way slasher, the other team must also has to ban a two-way slasher. It provided a unique challenge to sort of change up the flow of a team. Rounds are best-of-3, and I believe the final is best-of-5.

• The Ticket:
One aspect of pro sports is where bad teams or losing teams tank a season in hopes of landing better talent for next season. The Ticket, however, is seen as a Last Chance Qualifier for a team to make the Tournament. With the advent of a Western Conference and an Eastern Conference, two teams will make the final spot of each conference. The Ticket winners will have a guaranteed spot into the postseason. It gives losing or weaker teams one last chance to make the postseason.

• The Postsesaon:
This is where a team has a chance to become Champions of the NBA2K League. Each round of the Playoffs is a best-of-3 format and a best-of-5 Final. May the best team win!

That is as much as I know about NBA2K League. Here are some final thoughts coming up.

NBA2K League: Final Thoughts

NBA2K League is one of the more engaging and more fun eSports leagues in the world. Incredible personalities, great play, solid broadcasting, and more make this a real eSport to stand behind. Having NBA affiliation adds to the overall appeal of the league. As the season is currently playing Season 4, I can see this league expanding and growing. Further success will be dependent on involvement from fans, NBA2K players, corporate sponsors, and even the NBA itself will contribute to the future success of NBA2K League.

Personally, basketball is one of my favorite sports. I feel I am not as much a fan of NBA2K League only because I don't fully know the game of basketball and how NBA2K games play. I stayed because I love the community and the fun provided by this league. Despite this, many of my days and nights have been made better by watching NBA2K League broadcasts online. If you want something different as a watcher of eSports, you owe it to yourself to watch and follow NBA2K League. I may even go as far as to say you'll be a fan of NBA2K League even if you don't like NBA2K or even basketball. Scott Cole, Dirk, Autumn, Harris, and India all provide great broadcasting in streams. Jeff Eisenband's "Behind the Screens" offer up great perspective on NBA2K League players. I also salute the likes of the NBA2K League and of Matt Arden for making this happen. It is always great to be a part of the magic each week and in watching each game.

Hype Video!

If you want to get excited about NBA2K League, this video will get you in the mood. I LOVE this anthem. This video is one of those "wait for it..." things, but it's worth the wait. Check it...

I hope I've done what I can to discuss this league properly. I enjoy the community and comraderie to stick with this league. Thank you so much if you love my work.

Rodeo Events

John B. Marine | 4/09/2019 01:45:00 AM | | | Be the first to comment!
Rodeo events can be very fun to watch. Surely we have the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo here in Houston. I want to blog about rodeo events for you all. It is an opportunity to discuss sports among cowboys and cowgirls. I hope you get to find this material useful if you wonder about rodeo events. This will not be a definitive look at rodeo events, but you will get to get a look at rodeo events and what makes them interesting. Time to blog again!

Rodeo Events

I will mostly focus on events from the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo to discuss these events. The prominent league featuring these rodeo events in the United States is the PRCA (Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association). These are some fun to watch sporting events involving cowboys and cowgirls. Those who may not enjoy these events are those who may consider these events as acts of animal cruelty, mostly for how the animals are harmed. Rest assured, animals are treated with respect and are cared for exceptionally well.

I will not mention every last rodeo event, but I will make an effort to discuss as many events as possible. If I am unable to use certain images, I will try to find alternative ones to represent these events.

Steer Wrestling.

rodeo events steer wrestling
^ from: (Pinterest) - How do you win in steer wrestling? Dismount from your horse and twist down a runaway steer by the horns.

In steer wrestling, there are two horses with riders out of the gate. One one of the riders is to dismount from the horse and take down a steer by the horns. Quickest time wins. If the rider misses the steer, the run will be invalidated.

Bareback Riding.

rodeo events bareback riding
^ from: (Gerry Rodeo) - Can you hang onto a bucking bronc for eight seconds riding bareback?

Two events involving trying to stay on a horse is bareback riding. Each participant is to try to ride bareback on a bronc for eight seconds. The rider lays back on the horse (hence the bareback namesake) while holding onto a rope. The rider will be punished proper by the bronc by being thrusted forward and back constantly. If you get bucked off or if you touch the bronc with your hands, you will be disqualified. A score of 100 points is on offer. Judging depends on how well you do hanging onto a bucking bronc based on degrees of difficulty. This score is usually a combination of the horse and the rider. Best score wins.

Saddle Bronc Riding.

rodeo events saddle bronc riding
^ from: sportsdaily.dallasnews.com - Try hanging onto a bucking bull for eight seconds riding upright in Saddle Bronc Riding.

The difference between Bareback Riding and Saddle Bronc Riding is that the rider sits upright in Saddle Bronc Riding. The same task of trying to stay on the bucking horse for eight seconds is the key. Your free hand cannot touch the bronc. If so, your run will be disqualified. Up to 100 points can be up for offer. Best rating from the judges wins the event.

Barrel Racing.

rodeo events
^ from: (YouTube) - It's you, your horse, and three barrels to round. How quickly can you clear the course?

This is perhaps my personal favorite event of most rodeo events. The goal of barrel racing is to try to round three barrels on your horse and then hustle to the finish line. These events are usually run by cowgirls. However, there are some cowboys who participate in barrel racing. The horses being ridden are horses that are very agile and fast. Having a horse with low center of gravity and agility will be able to shine in barrel racing events. If you knock over a barrel, five seconds will be added to your time. Also, these events usually are completed within 14.5 to 14.9 seconds. However, I always wonder when horses and their riders will post times south of 14 seconds- even if it's 13.999.

Tie-Down Roping.

rode events tie down roping
^ from: (YouTube) - Lasso up a calf and then tie up three of the calf's legs. Easier said than done.

The goal of this competition is to catch a runaway calf and tie it down. One rider attempts to first lasso up the calf. Once successful, that rider must then dismount from the horse and then tie three of the calf's legs. Quickest time wins the competition.

Team Roping.

rodeo events team roping
^ from: (YouTube) - To be successful in Team Roping, both the header and heeler must be in perfect symphony to lasso up a runaway steer.

Two horse riders will try to lasso up a steer. One roper is known as the header (who goes for the horns or neck), and the other is the heeler (who goes for the legs). The header roper must lasso up the steer's neck while the heeler must lasso up the steer's rear legs. The steer must leave its chute first, and the riders must not get a false start out of their chutes. Missing either the steer's head or leg will result in disqualification. Quickest time wins.

Bull Riding.

rodeo events bull riding
^ from: (El Paso Times) - You. A bucking bull. Can you last for eight seconds?

Usually, I used to watch bull riders in the PBR (Professional Bull Riders) when I used to have CBS Sports Network. Bull riding is maybe the toughest of all rodeo events. I have seen a handful of wrecks by cowboys mounted on bucking bulls. Injury- and even death- are possible. As a sad example, Mason Lowe was killed earlier in 2019 stemming from injuries sustained from getting wrecked by a bull. You must nod your head to be released from the chute. Your goal is to stay on a bucking bull for eight seconds. If you are ready while the bull is also ready, If your free hand touches the bull, you are disqualified. Your score is based on the performance of both you riding the bull and the bull itself. Re-rides may be offered if the bull performs poorly. A total score of up to 100 is offered.

NOTE: I may make a separate blog post about the PBR, so stay tuned to "John's Blog Space" for if and when I make a post on the PBR.

Mutton Bustin'.

rodeo events mutton bustin
^ from: (Pinterest) - Little cowboys and little cowgirls attempt to hang on as long as possible on fierce sheep. It is may be the cutest competition of any rodeo event!

This is the cutest and most fun competition! Children try to hang onto these sheep for as long as they can. The rider who hangs on for the longest is the winner. Most mutton busters are usually about five years old riding on sheep. For most of my research of this topic, I mostly seemed to find mutton bustin' popular here in Houston with the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo.

I hope I have described each of the events as best as I could to the best of my ability.

If you want a better-explained look at these events, I have found this video for you to watch featuring all of the aforementioned rodeo events:

Fans25.com

John B. Marine | 2/19/2016 07:40:00 PM | | | | Be the first to comment!
Let me introduce you to Fans25.com. Fans25 is an online forum and a community mostly devoted to college football. Besides college football, though, mostly college basketball and some other traditional sports are discussed. The site is run by a fellow named Brett Haynes. I was introduced to Fans25 by a popular person who was under the name "Common Sense." I was introduced to Fans25.com perhaps after someone saw one of my YouTube videos maybe five or more years ago. As I joined the site, I was introduced to a number of different people around America who love college sports. Most of the people whom I've come across were generally kind and passionate for sports as well as for their favorite teams.

Consider this paragraph my testimonial to Fans.25.com. When I join a certain community, I try to get as involved as I can to present myself as a functioning member. The involvement is enhanced or muddled depending on how I feel about being among the community. The Fans25 community is a fine one. So I try to chime in at times on the site. I consider myself a regular to Fans25 though I am not on all the time. I do like being part of this community and hardly ever feel out of place or that my opinions don't bear as much weight as anyone else's opinion.

For as good as Fans25 can be, it, like anything else in life, can be made better. One way to help make the site better is to join the site! So you want to talk about how Crimson Tide football is better than everybody else? You think THE Ohio State University owns everybody else? You think Kansas Jayhawks basketball is the best? If you are a college sports fan in any capacity, why not share your love on Fans25? We can always use more fans! So why not join this little-bit-crazy sports family? :) You love college sports (as well as other sports). Come on down to Fans25 and show your love with this fine community!

If Brett (Fans25.com Owner) is Reading This...

Continued well wishes to you and your fine message board. I hope for the best for you and your site. Even in some low points and in some lulls in participation and traffic, stay positive and stay strong. There is silver lining to every cloud.

NASCAR

John B. Marine | 7/21/2015 11:53:00 PM | | | Be the first to comment!
#NASCAR is the National Assocation for Stock Car Auto Racing. It is America's premier motorsports series. NASCAR's history dates back to 1948. Today's NASCAR embodies dramatic and exciting full-contact racing. This blog post is my own look at NASCAR. I am not expecting this to be a definitive and complete focus on NASCAR, nor do I really intend this post to be such. You are still more than welcome to (hopefully) enjoy this post.

--- NASCAR ---

Let me set the mood with some pictures.

NASCAR logo
^ from: grfd.org - Here is the NASCAR logo. I basically tried to find an image to identify this post.

NASCAR racing
^ from: www.sodahead.com - Welcome to the National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing. Frenzied, take-no-prisoners, dramatic racing guaranteed every race in every NASCAR series.

NOTE: Some information taken from NASCAR's Wikipedia entry.

NASCAR is the premier motorsports category in America as it remains a quality showcase of full-contact racing. The names, tracks, cars, and races have changed; but the racing action remains entertaining for all to watch. Most of the racing in NASCAR takes place on a variety of ovals across the nation. They also race on a select number of road courses. But for the most part, a lot of people see NASCAR primarily for oval racing.

NASCAR was born in 1948 by Bill France Sr. A number of auto enthusiasts back in the 1940s were enamored with the idea of racing their vehicles to make money once prohibition was outlawed. Some of these thrillseekers loved moonshine. Cars back then were substantially lightened to be made better for racing. Such people who loved moonshine and took on racing in these modified cars were known as "moonshine runners." As unworldly illegal bootlegging was, moonshine to these people in the South was key to surviving and thriving back then. The racing was also key in making ends meet back then to some of the ones who took part in this dangerous activity.

To most people, some racing fans only tend to watch NASCAR to see the wrecks. Some people also only seem to discuss NASCAR when hard crashes are involved or some sort of non-racing moment happens. Hard racing entertains me; wrecks don't. I am, however, tickled pink about the sturdiness of the cars in the event of crashes. A huge example of this occured at the 2015 Coke Zero 400 when Austin Dillon's #3 Bass Pro Shops Chevrolet wrecked hard after crossing the finish line. You could barely tell that was a car the way it flew into the catchfence and was ripped to shreds. Austin Dillon managed to walk away cleanly from the wreck.

Up next is a look at the finer details of NASCAR.

The Cars.

NASCAR today features a number of different automobiles from mostly American makes. Every car is powered by a normally-aspirated V8 engine making upwards of 800 or so horsepower. They are mated to a four-speed gearbox. The curb weight of these racing machines is around 3400 lbs. (or 1542 kg) or 3500 lbs (or 1587 kg). Over the years, the racing became more and more popular. The racing vehicles were all vehicles you could purchase at your local car dealer. This was all part of the "race on Sunday, sell on Monday" concept. The cars for the most part are fairly close to stock regardless of their great high speeds. The cars would become continually sophisticated, but never to the point of being nowhere near a pure race car. To put it a different way, let's just say that these cars aren't ultra sophisticated based on production cars, such as the difference between the road-going cars in DTM and their DTM racing counterparts. Here are some of the machines currently raced across a variety of series in NASCAR:

Cup: Chevrolet SS, Ford Fusion, Toyota Camry
Grand National: Chevrolet Camaro, Ford Mustang, Toyota Camry
Trucks: Chevrolet Silverado, Ford F-150, Toyota Tundra

A number of past automobiles have been a part of NASCAR history including various other cars from current makes as well as certain makes currently not in NASCAR. Past cars include: Hudson Hornet, Ford Fairlane, Plymouth Superbird, Dodge Daytona, Ford Torino, Mercury Cyclone, Oldsmobile Cutlass, Pontiac Grand Prix, Dodge Intrepid, Chevrolet Monte Carlo, Chevrolet Lumina, Chevrolet Impala, Ford Thunderbird, Ford Taurus, and the Dodge Charger. There were some other unique cars that raced in NASCAR including the Toyota Celica and the Pontiac Sunfire.

The Drivers.

Those cars and trucks are nothing without quality talent racing them. A number of all-time greats and future all-time greats have contributed to NASCAR's history. One of the greatest NASCAR racers of all time is "The King" Richard Petty. Other greats past and present include the following: Cale Yarbrough, Junior Johnson, Dale Earnhardt Sr., "Fireball" Roberts, the Wood brothers, Darrell Waltrip, Bill Elliott, Rusty Wallace, the Allisons, the LaBontes, the Jarretts, and more. A lot of today's talent include Jimmie Johnson, Tony Stewart, the Busch brothers (Kyle and Kurt), Danica Patrick, Dale Earnhardt Jr., James Buescher, Joey Logano, Brad Keselowski, Darrell "Bubba" Wallace Jr., the Dillons (Austin and Ty), John Wes Townley, Miguel Paludo, Greg Biffle, Cole Whitt, David Starr (fellow Houstonian!), and Matt Crafton among other personalities.

It was Jeff Gordon who got me into NASCAR back in 1999. I always cheered him on and always admired him. The 2015 season marks Jeff Gordon's final full season of racing as he's set to retire. If he doesn't win the title this season, he'll retire a four-time NASCAR Cup Champion.

IN CASE YOU'RE WONDERING... Do I think Danica Patrick will win in NASCAR? I think she absolutely will. Her IndyCar Series consisted of a grand total of one win. But if you ask me, I've always believed in Danica, and she WILL win in NASCAR. Don't know where. Don't know how. All I do know is that she has too much talent to not be even a candidate to win a race in NASCAR. Even if she doesn't win a race at all in NASCAR, I still think she has enough talent to pull out a win.

But of course... that's what I think.

The Tracks.

The majrity of courses run by NASCAR are ovals. Though at times, they also race road courses. A lot of racing fans often like thinking of some ovals as "cookie cutter" ovals. Mostly, these are ovals that seem the same across a number of locations. Some of the ovals run across all levels of NASCAR include the following: Daytona, Indianapolis, Talladega, Darlington, Bristol, Martinsville, Gateway, Chicagoland, Michigan, Texas Motor Speedway, Las Vegas, Phoenix, Rockingham, Atlanta, Pocono, and of course... Charlotte among others. NASCAR has raced a number of road courses also. Sonoma Raceway and Watkins Glen are two road courses raced by NASCAR, and one of the past courses they used to race was Riverside International Raceway. Other road courses raced on past and present include Road America, Mid-Ohio, Road Atlanta, and Portland International Raceway. NASCAR even once had some promotional racing like at Japan's Twin Ring Motegi Speedway and Suzuka back in the mid-1990s.

Those who miss classic tracks NASCAR used to race on remember tracks like North Wilkesboro, Rockingham, and Riverside International Raceway. Rockingham did host a NASCAR Trucks race a few years ago.

The Races.

Most of the premier events take place in the Cup ranks.

• The year begins with the Daytona 500, but the racing before then happens well before then. Daytona Speedweeks is more like NASCAR's equivalent of training camp in the NFL. All of the racing does eventually get down to the prestigious Daytona 500 held in February.

• One of the other significant races in NASCAR is the Southern 500 at Darlington Speedway in Darlington, South Carolina, USA. This event is usually held in early May.

• Later in May is the Coca-Cola 600. This race is run in the evening and into the night on the same day of the Indy 500. Some drivers try to do the Indy-Charlotte double, making for a total of 1,100 miles of racing. I call the Coca-Cola 600 as the Le Mans of NASCAR as far as it being the longest race NASCAR runs all year.

• One of the latest most fascinating races of late is the Mudsummer Classic run by the NASCAR Trucks. This late July racing event takes place on a Wednesday around Eldora Speedway in Rossburg, Ohio, USA. There are a number of heat races and last chance qualifiers to help set the field for the main race. The main race itself consists of a format of three segments at 60 laps, 50 laps, and 40 laps respectively for a total of 150 laps. To me, I don't see why they just have three 50-lap sessions much like how you have three 20-minute periods of hockey.

• While the Indy 500 has its charm, the Brickyard 400 has been a NASCAR staple since 1994. The Brickyard 400 is NASCAR's premier race around the historic Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Victory here is almost as prestigious as winning the Daytona 500. This is also a late July event.

These are among some of the more popular races run all year in NASCAR.

NASCAR All-Stars.

On the Cup level, there are all star festivities that take place. Competitions range from the Pit Crew Challenge to the All-Star Race itself around Charlotte Motor Speedway. What is heralded about the All-Star Race is that this is a non-points race that is just as competitive as any other. There are a few segments within the All-Star Race itself. The winner gets $1M USD. Not a bad prize to play for, eh?

NASCAR Hall of Fame.

The mark of most established sports is to have a Hall of Fame dedicated to those who helped revolutionize the sport and demonstrate excellence on and off the track. Charlotte, North Carolina is where you can find the NASCAR Hall of Fame and all of the cars and stars who helped establish NASCAR into the motorsports powerhouse it is today.

Now it's time to look a bit further into NASCAR.

--- NASCAR: Why Bother? ---

Here is a commentary section to offer my own thoughts on NASCAR before going any further. Agree or disagree at will.

There is a reason why NASCAR is so respected. To me, the series and its racing is as distinctive a motorsport as you can get. NASCAR has a character and personality with its cars and its racing comparable to most other disciplines and categories of motorsport. The cars are not seriously sophisticated or anything. After all, many people usually think of NASCAR stock cars as tanks- race cars that weight a lot and are more suited towards ovals than some of the world's top motor racing circuits. It is perfectly fine to not like NASCAR for whatever reason. But when you really think about it, NASCAR has an appeal and a character that makes it every bit as unique as any other established motorsport. When is the last time you heard NASCAR being described as (for example) "F1 without road courses?" While people may not like oval racing or the fact that stock cars are not as sophisticated as cars from series like the DTM or any GT/Sportscar/Endurance racing series, at least NASCAR is distinctive enough to be featured as its own series rather than some fake racing series.

Do you want some more proof that NASCAR is distinctive enough? Look at some of the different international racing talent that either raced in NASCAR or at least wanted to race in NASCAR: Narain Karthikeyan, Nelson Piquet Jr., Juan Pablo Montoya, Marcos Ambrose, Kimi Raikkonen, and Shigeaki Hattori among others. Many of the names I listed were ex-F1 racers! If NASCAR is such a crap series, then why do you think a number of racing talent want to race in NASCAR? I think it speaks to the level of prestige of NASCAR to want to race in this series. Even if you just run one race, at least you get to compete in a series with its own personality and charm. Maybe some top-tier international talent simply want to try NASCAR to add to their racing resumé or take on a racing challenge maybe a racer hasn't tried out. Why do you think games like Gran Turismo 5 wanted to showcase NASCAR stock cars? Without NASCAR being popular, I don't think even games like SEGA's Daytona USA series would have been possible. Movies like "Days of Thunder" and "Talladega Nights" wouldn't have been possible either.

Its popularity in the United States makes it the 800 lb. gorilla in motorsports TV and media coverage. If you are a motorsports series trying to gain the top share of ratings and media, you got to get past NASCAR. ...and good luck to you on that! The thing to take away from me in this section is that NASCAR is as distinctive a racing series as Formula 1, rally racing, drifting, drag racing, or anything like that. There are even people who think NASCAR is better than Formula 1! What does THAT tell you?

Anyhow... these are reasons why you should even bother about NASCAR. It isn't the only stock car racing series, but it is the king of stock car racing.

--- NASCAR: The Top Three Touring Series ---

There are three series that most people know of in regards to NASCAR. I will feature those three here.

NASCAR Cup.

I refer to it as "NASCAR Cup" irrespective of the title sponsor. These days, it is the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (or NSCS). This is the premier category of NASCAR Racing with the longest and most prestigious races. It is the main class of competition for people to get noticed in. Among the biggest races are the Daytona 500, Coca-Cola 600, Brickyard 400

Today's Cup racing is punctuated each season since 2004 with the Chase for the Cup. The way I understood the controversial Chase for the Cup is that Matt Kenseth won the 2003 Cup Championship but won only one race that entire season. So in an effort to try to offer a series more in line with most traditional American sports and reward winning races, the Chase format was set. The Chase for the Cup consists of ten races to close out the season with races around various points of America. The format started from giving the top 10 or top 12 in points a huge points boost to determine an eventual champion. Today's Chase format has a "win and you're in" format. It is simple- win a race, and you qualify for the "postseason." These days, the Chase has a format that eliminates a number of poor-performing drivers as the Chase progresses.

Many people have mixed reactions in regards to the Chase format and the Chase itself. Some like the format as it gives NASCAR some identity by spicing up the racing with this interesting format. Many others dislike the Chase because it doesn't reward consistency like most other racing series.

NASCAR Grand National.

These days, it is the NASCAR XFINITIY Series; however, I've always learned of this level of NASCAR as the Grand National Series. Many look to this series as the second tier of NASCAR's top three touring series. Races here are shorter than in the Cup ranks. Many of the drivers graduated from the Truck Series ranks and want to make that impact in Cup. Depending on who you ask, this series is either a feeder series to Cup or a lower-level NASCAR series that provides just as much excitement as Cup.

NASCAR Trucks.

The NASCAR Trucks series (NASCAR Camping World Truck Series today) features pickup trucks not afraid to get roughed up in racing. It is the lowest class of the top three touring series, but it features some of the most exciting racing. It is also the youngest of the three with the first championship dating back to 1995. Among the highlight races in this series are the Wednesday night race around Bristol Motor Speedway and one of the most recent special races- the Mudsummer Classic around the famed Eldora Speedway dirt oval in Ohio.

Even though these are three different levels of NASCAR racing, they all have their own identity and do not really feel like any traditional series of races or any sort of ladder system of NASCAR. So while they may seem like three different levels of competition, the series themselves feel more like individual levels of competition instead of a traditional ladder system of NASCAR.

--- NASCAR: The Other Series ---

So you know about the top three series. The sport delves deeper with a number of series most may not know of. I will make brief introductions to those series here.

NASCAR Modifieds.

The Modified NASCAR race cars consist of low-powered stock cars with significantly less bodywork and an open-wheel format. The most common showcase on TV of Modified racing usually happens at New Hampshire Motor Speedway in Loudon, New Hampshire. There is a Whelen Modified series and a Whelen Modified Southern series.

NASCAR K&N Pro Series.

The NASCAR K&N Pro Series is divided into two regions- East and West. This is a showcase of racing talent racing a handful of race courses on short ovals and even some road courses. It is a chance for drivers to step up to the higher ranks of NASCAR. One such driver from these ranks is Darrell "Bubba" Wallace Jr., who is currently racing in the NASCAR Xfinity Series.

NASCAR Canadian Tire Series.

NASCAR in Canada is highlighted by the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series. A number of racing facilities across Canada play host to this fine series. They even include a few street courses. These cars are styled a bit differently and perform differently from some of the stock cars we're used to in the States.

NASCAR Mexico.

The NASCAR Mexico series features a variety of race courses and a variety of racing drivers from Mexico. Two graduates of this series racing in NASCAR in the United States include German Quiroga and Daniel Suarez. The tracks raced in NASCAR Mexico include various ovals and a number of road courses across Mexico.

NASCAR Euro Series.

Though Europe is the birthplace of the modern automobile, stock car racing isn't as popular in Europe as it is in the United States. Providing that spark of stock car goodness for Europe is the NASCAR Whelen Euro Series. This series consists of stock cars racing across Europe. Venues raced include a number of ovals as well as some fascinating road courses. For example, the series races on courses like Brands Hatch, Valencia, Nürburgring, all among other courses.

You've now been briefly briefed on NASCAR's other series.

--- NASCAR: What If? ---

Because you're reading "John's Blog Space," you didn't just come here to get a simple look at NASCAR. I have to personalize things and be unique. So what you're about to read is all a bunch of random nonsense that makes sense ultimately. Feel free to chime in on any ideas that may interest you from these pieces...

What If: More Manufacturers?

I am a Chevrolet person, but it is sad Chrysler isn't in the series. Of course, I mean Dodge, but this is a series that has seen Mopar power from the likes of Plymouth and Dodge in NASCAR. I'd surely want to see Dodge return to make it Chevy vs. Ford. vs. Dodge vs. Toyota.

Now what about other manufacturers? What would they bring? This list below features a number of other manufacturers and what I think would be interesting to see in NASCAR. All of them consist either of makes not in NASCAR or makes in NASCAR but with other products:

• Acura: TLX or RL
• Lexus: IS
• Infiniti: Q50
• Volkswagen: Jetta or Passat
• Audi: A3 or A4
• BMW: 1-series or 328i (or maybe the M4)
• Mercedes-Benz: CLA (or maybe the C-Class or E-Class)
• Honda: Accord (or MAYBE the Civic)
• Nissan: Altima or Maxima; Titan in NASCAR Trucks
• Mazda: Mazda6 (or maybe the Mazda3)
• Subaru: WRX (or maybe the Legacy)
• Hyundai: Elantra, Sonata, or (maybe) the Genesis Sedan
• Kia: Forte (or maybe the K900)

What If: World Tour?

Despite its advances to be more international, NASCAR's roots are deeply entrenched in the South. NASCAR could still put on a great show if it visited some international locales. Here are some venues outside of America in which I think NASCAR would be great to see around the world:

--- North America and South America ---
• Mosport (Canada)
• Mont-Tremblant (Canada)
• Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez (Mexico)
• Queretaro (Mexico)
• Puebla (Mexico)
• Autodrómo Internacional de Las Américas (Dominican Republic)
• Bushy Park (Barbados)
• Brasilia (Brazil)
• Interlagos (Brazil)
• Buenos Aires (Argentina)
• Potrero de los Funes (Argentina)

--- Europe and Africa ---
• Rockingham (England, UK)
• Silverstone (England, UK)
• Brands Hatch (England, UK)
• Knockhill (Scotland, UK)
• Catalunya (Spain)
• Ricardo Tormo Circuit (Spain)
• Circuit Paul Ricard (France)
• Magny-Cours (France)
• Zolder (Belgium)
• Zandvoort (Netherlands/Holland)
• Eurospeedway Lausitz (Germany)
• Nürburgring (Germany)
• Oschesleben (Germany)
• Hockenheimring (Germany)
• A1 Ring (now Red Bull Ring) (Austria)
• Mantorp Park (Sweden)
• Monza (Italy)
• Mugello (Italy)
• Misano (Italy)
• Vallelunga (Italy)
• Moscow Raceway (Russia/Russian Federation)
• Kyalami (South Africa)
• Phakisa (South Africa)

--- Asia-Pacific ---
• Istanbul Park (Turkey)
• Bahrain International Circuit (Bahrain)
• Losail (Qatar)
• Yas Marina Circuit (United Arab Emirates)
• Dubai Autodrome (United Arab Emirates)
• Buddh International Raceway (India)
• Sentul (Indonesia)
• Johor Circuit (Indonesia)
• Sepang (Malaysia)
• Shanghai International Circuit (China)
• Guangdong (China)
• Suzuka (Japan)
• Fuji Speedway (Japan)
• Okayama (Japan)
• Sugo (Japan)
• Korean International Circuit (South Korea)
• Mount Panorama Circuit (Australia)
• Sandown (Australia)
• Philip Island (Australia)
• Eastern Creek (now Sydney Motorsports Park) (Australia)
• Barbagallo (Australia)
• Taupo Motorsports Park (New Zealand)

Any combination of venues from each of these three regions would be great for a NASCAR World Tour. Would this ever happen? Likely not. However, it would be great to see an international tour of NASCAR featuring some of the top drivers and teams in the series. I kept this list mostly to permanent and semi-permanent courses.

What If: A Road Course in the Chase for the Cup?

Road courses offer a greater challenge than most ovals. Trouble is, while NASCAR races road courses only so often, there are two schools of thought on NASCAR road racing. A lot of racing fans think road courses aren't racing. Like they'd rather see NASCAR drivers beat each other around on ovals rather than road courses. Also, what road courses would make for great racing in NASCAR's top category?

One thing to consider about the Chase for the Cup is that these are 10 courses spread across different regions of the nation. This 10-race format is like its own national championship. So I have a few ideas as far as road courses are concerned. Two road courses I would definitely want to see to spice things up would be either a Canadian venue or a very good Southern road course. I would probably replace Loudon with Mosport, Circuit de Gilles Villeneuve, or Mont-Tremblant. I could say that I could replace the second Talladega race with a stop at Barber Motorsports Park. However, I kind of would want to keep Talladega because the race is such a Wild Card in NASCAR. The championship ends at Homestead-Miami Speedway. Prior to this, how about racing Road Atlanta or Sebring? Or let's make things interesting- make Homestead the penultimate race and settle the championship at Sebring!

NASCAR would have some options, but how to modify the schedule to make these road course races in the Chase happen is the real deciding factor.

What If: Fewer Races or Shorter Races?

The grind of the NASCAR season goes from February to mid-November. Some people feel there are too many races or races that seem too long. Some other people even think some tracks shouldn't have two races to them. So one thing I was wondering is... would you rather have fewer races or shorter races, or maybe a combination of both? I am not sure where I would stand if I were asked this question. I used to be able to watch most of the races. But as I got older and stuff, I only mostly see the whole race for mostly the more prestigious races. Having fewer races and/or shorter races would probably result in much less money being made. On the other hand, teams and drivers will have more chances to relax and maybe not spend as much time and money building cars and doing testing and such.

DISCUSSION: Would you favor fewer races or shorter races in NASCAR? Or maybe both?
