Car Style - The Subaru Impreza WRX STi (Hatchback, 3rd Generation)

Boxer-6 engine power and a lot of World Rally Championship success are plenty of reason to be excited about the Subaru Impreza. Adding "WRX" and/or "STi" makes you even more excited. The third-generation Subaru Impreza is the latest edition for this fire-breathing rally monster. The Impreza since 1993, and this latest model is Subaru's gift to fans of the . Still funny to believe that the little Subaru 360 of the 1960s(?) is the grandfather to this beast. The latest model looks nowhere near as fierce as any of its past models. It's no soft performer, though. A car like this almost wants you to go kick up some dirt in rally stages. The one I will chat about in looks is the 5-door hatchback, because the sedan version looks very bland, especially from the rear.

--- Car Style: The 2010 Subaru Impreza WRX STi (Hatchback) ---
Meet the car:

^ from: houstoncars.org (I honestly couldn't find a better picture, so it's this or nothing) - the latest-generation Subaru Impreza WRX STi Hatchback.

The latest Impreza WRX STi may be devoid of anything that makes it look as it performs, but it does feature some gracious styling. Put it this way... at least the front looks better than that airplane-inspired design from 2006 or so (which was also used on the ugly B9 Tribeca). The latest Impreza WRX is quite capable as a four-door hatchback.

Exterior.
The front of the Impreza WRX STi is nothing menacing. The headlight arrangement is very clean rather than being monsterous. There is aggression to the front grill while not being overaggressive. A chrome bar is met with the Stars of Pleiades (also known as the Seven Sisters) that denotes Subaru's logo. A long and wide front opening adds a little toughness to the front, but not too much to scare off anybody. Perhaps the most aggressive element of the latest Impreza WRX STi is the huge front air scoop on the front hood/bonnet. Don't forget that the horizontally-opposed Boxer 6-cylinder engine lies beneath the hood!

The sides somehow tend to balance aggressiveness with fluidity. On either side of the front bumper from the sides are two little vents ahead of the tires. The car features a lovely set of five-spoke wheels. The car features some modestly aggressive fender flares. There are narrow side ducts from the front fender flares. The side skirts only compliment the aggressive character from the sides. As mentioned before, however, the design is fluid and beautiful.

The rear design is clean and well-styled. The taillight cluster features clean and sharp lines along with a host of lovely lighting arrangements. The boldness from the fender flares only adds to its lovely charm at the rear. The rear features dual exhaust mufflers with twin tailpipes. Nothing says "I mean business" like a pair of twin tailpipe dual exhaust. Then again, since when are high-end Imprezas NEVER scream "I mean business?"

Interior.
Its sporty, yet elegant, character extends into the interior. A sporty steering wheel is met with a nice instrument panel with all the gauges. The gauges are red with a black background. Its center console appears more sporty than elegant. A healthy array of metallic accents give it some style. The dashboard, as a whole, looks very nice. You'll feel like you're running (your favorite rally race) with the comfortable racing-style seats. The shifter and all looks great as well.

You may hate it because it's a hatchback, but it is a very nicely-designed car to me. It's just too bad the sedan version doesn't look as interesting and as fluid as the four-door hatchback. The Impreza comes to play whether on the road or the track. Definitely not a bad car if you want a performance-oriented car. Same goes for if you want to do some rally racing At least you know you can rally race with a company that has seen its fair share of rally racing success.

So I think it is a lovely car. What about you, though? If you want parts for your car (even if you own a 2010 Impreza WRX STi), you can find some on Amazon by using this widget below. Please read "An Important Amazon Note" in the sidebar for more information on Amazon items.

I am about to buy a Subaru as it is my intention to rally in the next few years. Please forgive my ignorance but I am a newbie just starting out. Are hatchbacks or sedans used in rallies? Any advice anyone wants to give me at the start of fulfilling this dream - I'm all ears!

I am respectful of everyone who posts kind comments, so fear not. As far as rallying success for hatchbacks are perhaps better suited for rally than sedans. One of my all-time favorite rally cars is a hatchback- the Lancia Delta HF Integrale. One of today's best WRC cars, the Citroën C4 WRC is a hatchback. So long as you can ride hard with a car in rally conditions, you will be successful. I'd probably go with a hatchback for rally. Not sure why, but they are very well appointed for rally more than most sedans and coupes.
