Charice Pempengco

(UPDATED: December 28, 2017)

I have not seen Glee at all, but I do know one thing- Charice Pempengco (Sunshine Corazon on Glee) is one super-cute Filipino (or Pinay in her case) singer. I was first introduced to her from a friend of mine on Facebook. We had a little chat, and she told me about Charice Pempengco. I later looked back at something saved on my computer and came across Charice Pempengco. Afterwards, I had a chance to hear the native of Laguna, Philippines sing. And my goodness- as much as I was impressed by Charlotte Church when she sang soprano, I was blown away equally by Charice's singing. How can a girl so young have such a bold singing voice? How can a girl so young hang onto notes and sing sweetly? Even Ellen DeGeneres noted that she was about to cry hearing a (then) 15-year old Charice Pempengco sing. Now 18 years old (as of the date of this blog post), Charice can only go one direction- up... as in skyward. This blog post concerns the lovely young Pinay pop star that has captured the hearts of many.

BEFORE I BEGIN...

...I have debated to myself whether or not to launch a new blog label focusing in on Filipino material. Well now, I have added a new blog post devoted to Filipino topics. This new blog label is called "Philippines and Filipino," and it involves topics and bits involving the Philippines and/or Filipinos. This is perhaps a way to compliment and thank all of my Filipino audience that reads my blog. I get a lot of hits from the Philippines, and I want to offer this blog label in thanks to all of my Filipino readers.

Charice Pempengco

I said Charice is a super-cute girl. Well, see for yourself!

Charice Pempengco

Charice album

Born in Laguna, Philippines on May 10, 1992; Charice Pempengco (born Charmaine Clarice Relucio Pempengco) is a young singer who has a very bold voice. She was discovered in 2007 and was a hit on YouTube. Her voice is incredible. Her singing is powerful. This young Filipino girl reminds me of Whitney Houston back in her prime. She has the boldness of Whitney Houston with the sweet flow of Leona Lewis. Despite my description of her singing, her biggest hero is Celine Dion.

Want to have a listen to her music? This was a video uploaded to YouTube December 19, 2007. She sings two songs for your listening pleasure:

This is Charice singing an original song of hers called "In This Song" here:

Bonus Video!

Inspiration singing with heroine... it's Charice Pempengco singing with Celine Dion. Charice was 16 years old at the time of this video:

This was just another video I wanted to offer to thank my readers for viewing my blog. "Little girl, big voice," as said by a friend of mine on Facebook.

Charice Pempengco is the truth! (A friend of mine on Facebook) said it best- little girl, big voice.

Next Best Vocal Inspiration?

I think Charice Pempengco is someone who might really influence sort of a wave of Filipino singing talent. Charice is by far very talented and expressive. Her bold and powerful singing is Grammy-worthy. I think if all goes well for her in her music career, she will win at least one Grammy. Sweet as sugar, but with a fiercely bold voice. Anyone who can get people in his/her native land or of his/her age to follow your dreams is someone who can serve as worthy inspiration. If it means that more Filipinos want to try to make a splash in the American music scene, so be it. Charice looks to be someone who may really become her own superstar and perhaps win all kinds of awards.

What I Would Tell Charice Pempengco (if she may be reading this)

Hello, Charice Pempengco! You are an outstanding singer. I think you are definitely the future. You're part of that young wave of talent being born on the same year Selena Gomez was born. I wish you nothing but the best in your music career and in all other aspirations you may have in entertainment or other fields. Best wishes to you in your career!

Would I Want to Meet Charice Pempengco (if given the chance)?

Sure, why not? A young lady this beautiful and charming is DEFINITELY worth meeting.

Charice Pempengco Today (as of December 28, 2017)

(ADDED: December 28, 2017

Recently, I learned this girl... is now a guy. It was in 2013 or so when Charice Pempengco came out as a lesbian. Over time and through a sex change, Charice became Jake Zyrus. One of Charice's quotes notes that "my soul is male." So the songstress known as Charice Pempengco is now Jake Zyrus. As Jake, he is now a strong supporter of LGBT rights among the Filipino audience.

I posted this as an update because it was only recently I learned of Charice no longer being Charice. Now, Charice is Jake. So if you miss Charice, consider this kind of a remembrance of the bold singing girl we've known and loved as Charice.

Nice blog. I also love Charice. Have been following her for 3 years. Only thing you need to be careful of is there is no gender seperation like saying Phillipino or Phillipina. They are all Phillipinos.
