The Importance of Christmas

John B. Marine | 12/24/2012 01:35:00 PM |
Family and love are more important than any gifts. What gets lost in Christmas time is figuring out what is more important: gifts or love. Christmas- like a lot of other holidays- are big for commercial reasons. People want gifts and such. However, focusing too much on materialistic things takes away from the real reason why Christmas is celebrated and honored. It is a time of peace and love celebrated with family and friends. But to most people, Christmas is primarily just a time for wondering what gifts people will get. I am not saying that Christmas is just about gifts; all I'm saying is that Christmas is about MUCH more than just worrying about gifts.

Anyone who may have seen my old YouTube videos may know that I don't need certain holidays to be reminded of some of the different concepts expressed. For example, why do I need Valentine's Day to show love to someone? Why do I need Mother's Day or Father's Day to express love for my parents? Some holidays are mostly popular mostly for the commercial impact. Christmas is absolutely one of them. Or at least, more people tend to focus on gifts for Christmas than of any values important to Christmas- like family and peace. More often than not, the values of peace, family, and things like that often get pushed aside to where the focus is primarily on gifts and gift-giving. Gifts are PART of Christmas, but not all of Christmas.

While I want all of my readers worldwide to have a happy and safe Christmas (if you celebrate Christmas), don't forget about the values more important than any gifts one may receive. You may even say that the best gift(s) anyone can get for Christmas are the ones not found under any Christmas tree. Happy holidays to all of you! Looking ahead, happy Boxing Day to my Canadian readers! Also looking ahead, happy Kwanzaa to those who celebrate Kwanzaa! And most of all... thank you for reading!

Hi John, just wanted to say Merry Christmas to you too. Glad to see you're having a great day as well. The time leading up to Christmas seems more fun than the toys you get for Christmas...spending time with friends and family makes it all worthwhile.

I find that many of my Jewish friends are very jealous they don't have Christmas.
