The Pharcyde

John B. Marine | 6/27/2012 09:53:00 PM | | |
Nobody in this day and age of hip-hop and rap would know The Pharcyde. This quartet formed in 1989 and are best known for their 1990s songs. My brother bought CDs and stuff featuring these guys. So I'll introduce you all to these guys by showing you some videos. Old school hip-hop is in the house for this blog post. Welcome [back(?)]to John's Blog Space!

--- The Pharcyde: Basic Info ---

(Some information provided by Wikipedia)

Let's meet the original Pharcyde members:

• Derrick Stewart (Fatlip)
• Romye Robinson (Bootie Brown)
• Trevant Hardson (Slimkid3)
• Emandu Wilcox (Imani)

The Pharcyde is a hip-hop quartet from South Central Los Angeles, CA, USA. The Pharcyde's first album was released in 1992 called "Bizarre Ride II the Pharcyde." They would release three more albums: "Labcabincalifornia" in 1995, "Plain Rap" in 2000, and "Humboldt Beginnings" in 2004. Only Imani and Bootie Brown are the remaining original members of this group.

--- The Pharcyde: Music ---

And now, this is some of their music. To be honest... I have NEVER seen (or remember) seeing any of these music videos. So I'm seeing these almost for the first time. It goes to show you that even I get a learning experience while trying to offer a learning experience to my reading audience. I don't blog about things just to put it out there- I blog out of love of the game.

JOHN SAYS: Thank you for the ones who allowed embedding of videos.

Passin' Me By.

"She keeps on passin' me by..." That's not only the chorus to this song, but also the story of my nonexistent love life. Okay, maybe a little too much information. Just enjoy the video and the song, alright?

Runnin'.

From the "Labcabincalifornia" album is this song- Runnin'. This is easily my favorite song from this album. Check this one out:

^ "The Pharcyde - Runnin'"

Drop.

This is another track from "Labcabincalifornia" called Drop. More 1995 loving coming your way:

^ "The Pharcyde - Drop"

Pandemonium.

From the soundtrack to the 1994 movie "Street Fighter," The Pharcyde came along with "Pandemonium." And yes- THAT "Street Fighter" movie with Jean Claude Van Damme as Guile and the late Raul Julia as M. Bison. Who cares about that movie? Here's some music for you:

^ "The Pharcyde - Pandemonium"

The e.n.d.

How fitting that I end this series of videos by featuring a song called... "The e.n.d."? WARNING: bad language in this one...

^ "Pharcyde - the e.n.d"

How do you like these videos? These are among the ones I know best and want to share in this post.

--- The Pharcyde (if they were to read this) ---

My brother has heard more of your music than I have, but I have full respect for you guys. It's sad how a number of past hip-hop artists and groups get washed out in this current age of music. That's why it's great we can look back in time at some of the better names and all the table setters of hip-hop. You guys are at least one of the real table setters in hip-hop. Thanks for all you've brought to hip-hop.

Would I Want to Meet The Pharcyde (if given the chance)?

I would say so. Yeah, I would.
