Wayback Wednesday: Nov. 12, 2014

It's #WaybackWednesday again! Hump Day loving coming your way courtesy of yours truly. How about a musical (and other media?) trip back in time? As long as material is at least five years old, you'll see it here. Can I take you back in time? Good! I know you'll cooperate. So let's do this!

--- Wayback Wednesday: How it Works ---

Wayback Wednesday on JBS
Welcome to Wayback Wednesday on John's Blog Space!

Most of what I select for "Wayback Wednesday" primarily consists of music videos. Rather than share with fans, I usually share YouTube videos among friends in my Facebook profile. Most of what I share are selections based on a certain group of songs I want to feature. I want to label it as "Wayback Wednesday" for the sake of hashtag usage. The proper person in me knows it is "Way Back Wednesday" rather than "Wayback Wednesday." The main criteria element is that the material must be at least five years old. So as of this blog post, all Wayback Wednesday features material from 2009 or earlier. Nothing from 2010 or later will be featured. All Wayback Wednesday selections go in chronological order from earliest to oldest. So more recent material is featured before going to least recent material. For example, a song from 2003 will be shown followed by a song either from that same year or before 2003.

Here's the quick rundown:
• material that is at least five years old is featured.
• selected material is from more recent to less recent.
• not every selection is music.

This is a sample post:

I decide to post just a link to the video rather than slow down the performance of my blog with embedded YouTube videos. Links to some videos may or may not be available all the time. You're basically clicking at your own discretion in this sense.

Depending on traffic and other considerations, I may start this as a common feature of my blog. Having said all of this... let's begin!

Here are the songs I've selected for this Wednesday. Click on the links to view the YouTube videos associated with the individual songs.

If you like to comment, feel free to let me know which songs you like from this list I selected.

Enjoy these selections! :)

Mynt feat. Kim Sozzi - "Back in Love" (2005)
Actually, I had this song planned for last week's "Wayback Wednesday." I now put this post here for you to enjoy. This is a light dance song by Mynt featuring Kim Sozzi. Enjoy this 2005 song.

OutKast - Hey Ya! (2003)
Hey, ya! A double shot of OutKast is coming your way. First off is this classic. OutKast is one of the all-time greats in hip-hop. Big Boi and Andre 3000 are (to quote Kevin Harlan) all dressed up and ready to go. Classic OutKast coming your way in this 2003 song. Enjoy!

OutKast - I Like the Way You Move (2003)
From the same album as "Hey Ya!" is this smooth piece. For about the same reasons I am a Linkin Park fan in regards to rock, I am a fan of OutKast in regards to hip-hop. OutKast isn't afraid to try out different avenues of music. For this song, this is a great dance-type song with some smooth vocals and smooth instruments. If you've never heard this song, I think you'll enjoy it. So have a listen to this 2003 song.

The Offspring - Pretty Fly (For a White Guy) (1998)
Welcome to 1998! The Offspring are ready to rock. They'll tell you they're pretty fly... for a white guy. '90s rock coming your way!

Hanson - Mmmbop (1996)
I "went there" with Brittney Spears last week for "Wayback Wednesday." Now with this 1996 song, I "went there" with Hanson. Enjoy these three guys and their music. Quintessential 1990s pop-rock is what you're going to get here. Enjoy! You're welcome.

Blackstreet - No Diggity feat. Dr. Dre, Queen Pen (1996)
Let's stay in 1996 and change the genre of music. Hip-Hop and R&B come together like peanut butter and jelly with this hot song. "No Diggity" is the song, and the group is Blackstreet. Enjoy this one!

Boyz II Men - MoTown Philly (1991)
Anyone who knows me knows that one of my all-time favorite groups is Boyz II Men. This 1991 song is one of my favorites of Boyz II Men, not to mention this being on the "Legacy" album of Boyz II Men. Here is a super-cool 1991 track for you all.

Bell Biv Devoe - Poison (1990)
You probably heard this song if you've played "Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas." Welcome to the year 1990! Bell Biv Devoe is ready to get you movin'. I hope you enjoy this one!

Van Halen - Panama (1984)
Let's continue the theme of old songs heard in video games. My only memory of this song is this being part of the intro to Gran Turismo 4. This is just a wicked cool song to begin with. This, speaking as someone who is absolutely not any kind of rock afficionado.

- Movin' on Up (1978)
Are you a fan of the sitcom "The Jeffersons?" If so, then I'm presenting you "Movin' on Up," which is the theme song to "The Jeffersons." It was written by Ja'net Dubois (who also sung this song) and Jeff Barry. Come and get your 1978 loving, folks!

The Emotions - Best of My Love (1977)
The Eagles and The Emotions both made songs called "Best of My Love." The one you're getting here is "Best of My Love" from The Emotions. This has the right combination of groovy and smooth. You can't argue with the smoothness of this song. This version was the best one I could find of this song. Welcome to 1977! I'm sure you'll have no problem enjoying this song. Believe me.

Kool and the Gang - Jungle Boogie (1973)
Ready to groove? If not, you're going to groove once you hear this joint. Kool and the Gang are all about the Jungle Boogie here. Well... what are you waiting for? Groove to this 1973 song and be happy!

Thank you for checking out this "Wayback Wednesday" post of mine.
