Tiny Houses

John B. Marine | 5/23/2022 11:49:00 PM | | Be the first to comment!
The trend of tiny houses has exploded in popularity lately. People looking to downsize in their lives or adopt a minimalist lifestyle have found comfort living in small houses. Some people even choose living off the grid. No matter what the case, tiny homes are the thing for those wanting to downsize and live with less. I will talk about tiny houses in this blog post. This post is not meant to be a definitive look at tiny houses, but more a general digest on tiny houses and tiny house living. So come along for the ride!

Tiny Houses

Tiny houses have become popular lately, but the origin of their popularity actually dates back to the 1980s. These houses allow for comfortable living while (more importantly) having affordable housing than most regular home properties. A lot of tiny houses are very inventive in their design. A number of tiny houses can go around portably attached by a trailer. Such mobile tiny houses can be great for vagabonds. Some people have more than one small house in an era, either to support multiple people or even to have a house along with a home business on the same property.

You can think of tiny homes kind of like treehouses for kids. You may also think of kid-size tiny homes like some of the toy homes kids play in. The only difference is that tiny homes are every bit of homes for grown-ups, only you could legitimately live in them with all the different resources essential for living. Whether you get a pre-made mobile home, a modular home, or even make a proper home from a kit; having a tiny house can be beneficial if you intend on having affordable housing and choosing to live in such small space.

The popularity of tiny houses has even been expressed in a television show called "Tiny House Nation." This show highlighted on various tiny homes that people have built and/or lived in.

Why Tiny Houses?

For a lot of people, tiny houses allow for the functionality and comfort of home without having so much space to work with. A lot of people tend to equate success and happiness with having a large, lavish house on acres of land. Having so much space is great if you have a large family or want to flaunt your wealth a bit. However, some people feel they can function better and not be so stressed by living in smaller spaces with fewer things.

If you really think about it, there are only certain things in your house you can live with. Removing clutter in your house can help you be more productive and focused. Think about what you can and can not live without. Believe it or not, you don't need that fancy home theater system. You don't need the two-car garage for your only vehicle. You may not need the big bookshelves housing your favorite books and countless other decorations. You may not even need that fancy shower and bathtub combination. Tiny homes, then, make you think about what you can or can not live with.

It is also possible people simply want temporary housing for financial reasons. Maybe someone is living in a tiny house as a place to live as a result of a previous residence being destroyed or repossessed. If someone lives with his/her parents and want to live in his/her own space, they may want to consider a tiny home to live on their own. That is especially before if someone does not have the money to purchase a proper house.

Off-the-grid living and/or sustainable housing are also reasons why people consider tiny houses. Being off the grid, a tiny home may have to rely on things like solar power and some other way to handle waste. Tiny home living for the purpose of sustainable and eco-friendly purposes can happen if you rely on something like tiny housing.

There are lots of reasons why tiny houses exist and are popular.

How Tiny Houses?

Tiny houses can come from a variety of sources. Some tiny houses are properly-built home units from various contractors. Some tiny houses are converted from sheds and even vehicles. You could even buy home kits that you can build homes from the ground up. There are even people who build affordable homes out of shipping containers. So among tiny houses, there are a lot of options ranging from mobile houses to (basically) drivable houses.

Tiny House Living.

The appeal of tiny living is meant to suit those who like living simple. You'd be surprised at how a number of people live without needing to be indulged in the whole *American Dream* concept. Some people who live in tiny homes tend to want to live off the grid. Power and utilities are usually the thing I am most concerned with tiny house living. With the right resources, you can live just fine with a lot of off-the-grid features.

One Important Consideration About Tiny Housing.

Do NOT get the idea that people are into tiny housing because they failed at life. Some people just choose to live without having various status symbols or having to fall into what society deems "successful." Think about maybe people who are at least 60 years old, children moved out, and he/she feels like he/she has everything in such a tiny house without a lot of goods. A lot of us think of tiny houses as not being successful or having a great love life and family. Tiny housing is just minimalist living.

Should You Consider Tiny Home Living?

If you are looking to live elsewhere and in a small space, and if you are willing to take on a much different lifestyle, feel free to take on getting a tiny home to live in. You will need to make some sacrifices and think about what is more important to your survival and your happiness. Tiny homes can be a proper and feasible thing to invest in and work towards for those looking for it to be a long-term thing.

Video Insight.

So what is possible with tiny housing? Let me show you with a video. I want to thank the uploader for allowing this video to be embedded:

Buc-ee's

John B. Marine | 12/19/2019 05:22:00 PM | | | | Be the first to comment!
#Bucees makes for some awesome travel places. Buc-ee's is a chain of travel centers with many gas pumps and a massive convenience store. They primarily are both long distance gas stations and a tourist trap. They can be quite fun to visit. They also are essential to you in traveling as well as staying fed. No matter what, Buc-ee's stores never offer dull moments. I figured I'd blog about Buc-ee's for this blog post.

Buc-ee's

(some information taken from the Wikipedia entry on Buc-ee's)

Buc-ee's is a chain of gas stations primarily across Texas. Though, in my research of this topic, there are also Buc-ee's stores in Alabama, Florida, and even one in Georgia. Buc-ee's was established in 1982 by Arch "Beaver" Aplin III and Don Wasek. The company is based in Lake Jackson, Texas, USA. The Buc-ee's mascot is Bucky, a beaver. The first Buc-ee's store opened in Luling, Texas, USA in 2001. The chain of Buc-ee's stores increased to over 36 different locations. Buc-ee's mostly are in Texas, but there are also stations in Alabama and Florida. There is also a Buc-ee's that recently opened in Georgia. So Buc-ee's is on the rise. They are known for being some of the biggest gas stations in the world.

Some of the many things that make Buc-ee's stand out are a lot of the different facilities offered. For one thing, there are more than 60 different gas pumps at most Buc-ee's locations. Lots of people can come in and fuel their vehicles while on a long trip or something. They also offer fresh food people can either buy or see being prepared. Most of all, Buc-ee's is known for having some of the cleanest bathrooms of any sort of gas station or travel center. There are a lot of stalls meant to service many people. Buc-ee's is the kind of place where you can be on your way in style to get through the day or to keep your road trip going.

What Buc-ee's offers is multiple gas pumps and massive convenience stores. They also offer lots of fresh food and drinks to keep people fed. You can also buy things such as hunting accessories, grills, lawn chairs, clothes, and more. The first thing to really get to you is the very fun Bucky beaver. You see all kinds of fun merchandise to buy, including of the Buc-ee's beaver himself. The food and drinks offered by Buc-ee's include everything from hearty breakfast to some delicious lunch and dinner options. You may even get yourself something to snack on in case you want snacks to pick up for your travel pleasures. You can get everything drinks wise from orange juice, to various soft drinks, and even some beer and wine. You can get lots of travel gear and some outdoor living if those are your thing. Go get yourself lawn chairs, propane tanks, coolers, tumblers, and more from Buc-ee's. Find some toys, books, and even music CDs for those wanting some entertainment at Buc-ee's as well. You can even add to your wardrobe with fashion items from Buc-ee's. Get yourself things like T-shirts, button-down shirts, footwear, caps, hats, sunglasses, sleepwear, and more. Buc-ee's does not disappoint with all you can buy from these stores. These are MORE than just "gas stations." They are literally tourist traps.

My Buc-ee's Testimonial.

The first time I learned of Buc-ee's was when I went to Kerrville, Texas, USA back in 2005 or 2006. I was going to go to Kerrville to try to enroll at Schreiner University. I saw a lot of signs along the way regarding Buc-ee's. So when my parents and I arrived at the Buc-ee's in Luling, Texas, USA; I was blown away by what all the store had to offer. Coincidentally, the Buc-ee's in Luling is the first ever Buc-ee's location. Buc-ee's is such a fun place! I can assure you that you will not be disappointed with what Buc-ee's stores have to offer. More than a travel gas station, they are travel centers that have just about all of your best interests in mind. Also... how can you not love the cute Bucky beaver? :)

Final Thoughts.

Buc-ee's is an amazing chain of travel stores offering fun times and tasty edibles. I enjoy the experience and appeal Buc-ee's has to offer. These are great places to visit on your way to wherever in the world you are going. While Buc-ee's are gas stations, they are MUCH more than simple gas stations. These are travel centers that offer just about everything a usual gas station can offer while providing much more. I have said they are more tourist traps, Buc-ee's provides a lot more than even most large gas stations can provide. If you are in Texas or in any of the other places where Buc-ee's stores are located, visit one today and enjoy what all they have to offer that make them such fun places.

Rodeo Events

John B. Marine | 4/09/2019 01:45:00 AM | | | Be the first to comment!
Rodeo events can be very fun to watch. Surely we have the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo here in Houston. I want to blog about rodeo events for you all. It is an opportunity to discuss sports among cowboys and cowgirls. I hope you get to find this material useful if you wonder about rodeo events. This will not be a definitive look at rodeo events, but you will get to get a look at rodeo events and what makes them interesting. Time to blog again!

Rodeo Events

I will mostly focus on events from the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo to discuss these events. The prominent league featuring these rodeo events in the United States is the PRCA (Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association). These are some fun to watch sporting events involving cowboys and cowgirls. Those who may not enjoy these events are those who may consider these events as acts of animal cruelty, mostly for how the animals are harmed. Rest assured, animals are treated with respect and are cared for exceptionally well.

I will not mention every last rodeo event, but I will make an effort to discuss as many events as possible. If I am unable to use certain images, I will try to find alternative ones to represent these events.

Steer Wrestling.

rodeo events steer wrestling
^ from: (Pinterest) - How do you win in steer wrestling? Dismount from your horse and twist down a runaway steer by the horns.

In steer wrestling, there are two horses with riders out of the gate. One one of the riders is to dismount from the horse and take down a steer by the horns. Quickest time wins. If the rider misses the steer, the run will be invalidated.

Bareback Riding.

rodeo events bareback riding
^ from: (Gerry Rodeo) - Can you hang onto a bucking bronc for eight seconds riding bareback?

Two events involving trying to stay on a horse is bareback riding. Each participant is to try to ride bareback on a bronc for eight seconds. The rider lays back on the horse (hence the bareback namesake) while holding onto a rope. The rider will be punished proper by the bronc by being thrusted forward and back constantly. If you get bucked off or if you touch the bronc with your hands, you will be disqualified. A score of 100 points is on offer. Judging depends on how well you do hanging onto a bucking bronc based on degrees of difficulty. This score is usually a combination of the horse and the rider. Best score wins.

Saddle Bronc Riding.

rodeo events saddle bronc riding
^ from: sportsdaily.dallasnews.com - Try hanging onto a bucking bull for eight seconds riding upright in Saddle Bronc Riding.

The difference between Bareback Riding and Saddle Bronc Riding is that the rider sits upright in Saddle Bronc Riding. The same task of trying to stay on the bucking horse for eight seconds is the key. Your free hand cannot touch the bronc. If so, your run will be disqualified. Up to 100 points can be up for offer. Best rating from the judges wins the event.

Barrel Racing.

rodeo events
^ from: (YouTube) - It's you, your horse, and three barrels to round. How quickly can you clear the course?

This is perhaps my personal favorite event of most rodeo events. The goal of barrel racing is to try to round three barrels on your horse and then hustle to the finish line. These events are usually run by cowgirls. However, there are some cowboys who participate in barrel racing. The horses being ridden are horses that are very agile and fast. Having a horse with low center of gravity and agility will be able to shine in barrel racing events. If you knock over a barrel, five seconds will be added to your time. Also, these events usually are completed within 14.5 to 14.9 seconds. However, I always wonder when horses and their riders will post times south of 14 seconds- even if it's 13.999.

Tie-Down Roping.

rode events tie down roping
^ from: (YouTube) - Lasso up a calf and then tie up three of the calf's legs. Easier said than done.

The goal of this competition is to catch a runaway calf and tie it down. One rider attempts to first lasso up the calf. Once successful, that rider must then dismount from the horse and then tie three of the calf's legs. Quickest time wins the competition.

Team Roping.

rodeo events team roping
^ from: (YouTube) - To be successful in Team Roping, both the header and heeler must be in perfect symphony to lasso up a runaway steer.

Two horse riders will try to lasso up a steer. One roper is known as the header (who goes for the horns or neck), and the other is the heeler (who goes for the legs). The header roper must lasso up the steer's neck while the heeler must lasso up the steer's rear legs. The steer must leave its chute first, and the riders must not get a false start out of their chutes. Missing either the steer's head or leg will result in disqualification. Quickest time wins.

Bull Riding.

rodeo events bull riding
^ from: (El Paso Times) - You. A bucking bull. Can you last for eight seconds?

Usually, I used to watch bull riders in the PBR (Professional Bull Riders) when I used to have CBS Sports Network. Bull riding is maybe the toughest of all rodeo events. I have seen a handful of wrecks by cowboys mounted on bucking bulls. Injury- and even death- are possible. As a sad example, Mason Lowe was killed earlier in 2019 stemming from injuries sustained from getting wrecked by a bull. You must nod your head to be released from the chute. Your goal is to stay on a bucking bull for eight seconds. If you are ready while the bull is also ready, If your free hand touches the bull, you are disqualified. Your score is based on the performance of both you riding the bull and the bull itself. Re-rides may be offered if the bull performs poorly. A total score of up to 100 is offered.

NOTE: I may make a separate blog post about the PBR, so stay tuned to "John's Blog Space" for if and when I make a post on the PBR.

Mutton Bustin'.

rodeo events mutton bustin
^ from: (Pinterest) - Little cowboys and little cowgirls attempt to hang on as long as possible on fierce sheep. It is may be the cutest competition of any rodeo event!

This is the cutest and most fun competition! Children try to hang onto these sheep for as long as they can. The rider who hangs on for the longest is the winner. Most mutton busters are usually about five years old riding on sheep. For most of my research of this topic, I mostly seemed to find mutton bustin' popular here in Houston with the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo.

I hope I have described each of the events as best as I could to the best of my ability.

If you want a better-explained look at these events, I have found this video for you to watch featuring all of the aforementioned rodeo events:

Texas- South or Southwest?

John B. Marine | 3/05/2019 09:11:00 PM | | Be the first to comment!
Texas- a South or Southwest state? Geographically, Texas is considered a southwestern state. However, it is very much dead center south if you find Texas on a map. We have a popular event here in Texas called SXSW (South by Southwest). This is sort of a "just for fun" blog post I want to share with you all. So do you see Texas as a Southern state, or a Southwestern state?

Texas: South or Southwest?

Let's talk about my wonderful home/native state! :) Just wanted to find some semi-random picture of my home state:

Texas map
^ from: www.txrestaurant.org - Texas. The Lone Star State. The 28th State added to the Union. Used to be its own country once. Not to mention... my home/native state.

Allow me to share some thoughts on this topic.

South and Southwest Defined.

Any long-time visitor of my blog may remember I did a blog post about beauties from different regions of the United States. One of those regions involved the South and Southeast. South and Southeast related to the likes of Texas and Oklahoma along with the general southeastern United States. When most people think of the South, it's usually Louisiana, Alabama, Georgia, the Carolinas, Tennessee, and places like that.

Usually, the Southwestern United States are Texas, Oklahoma, New Mexico, and Arizona. The only link I could see Texas with the other "Southwestern" states would probably be the dusty and arid landscapes, especially in western portions of Texas. These would be places like Midland or El Paso.

My Thoughts on Texas Being South or Southwest.

As a native of Houston, Texas; I tend to identify myself as a Southerner. I also tend to consider Texas a Southern state. In fact, for my region of Texas, I tend to think of the Mid-South as Texas and Oklahoma. I see my part of Texas to be more along the lines of the American South or Southeast more than I do as a Southwestern part of the United States.

So to say Texas is more Southwestern than South is to say we have the same sort of arid landscape as the other Southwestern states. To say Texas is more South than southwest is to suggest Texas is more along the lines of the American Southeast.

So I want to ask you all... do you think Texas is a Southern state, a Southwestern state, or maybe both at the same time?

Since I am from Houston, which is Southeastern Texas, I tend to think of myself as a Southerner. Because Texas is dead center South along with Oklahoma, I usually see Texas and Oklahoma as the Mid-South.

So is Texas South or Southwest?

I think Texas is a Southern state or a Southwestern state depending on what part of Texas you are from. Different parts of Texas are suggestive of different characteristics of some of the different states surrounding Texas. I think of Texas geographically as a Southern state, since it is in the dead south of the United States.

Then again... maybe Texas is unique in that it really is BOTH a Southern state AND a Southwestern state. So it's more a "best of both worlds" and why this is such a fine state Texas is. No matter what you think about the state of Texas, people worldwide call this state home of many different ethnicities and nationalities. Surely Houston is a diverse city with all sorts of cultures. I honestly have NEVER been to Austin, but I could say Austin personifies both Texas as a South and Southwestern state. After all, the SXSW (South by Southwest) show takes place in Austin. Maybe Texas is a Southern state. Maybe Texas is a Southwestern state. Or maybe... Texas is BOTH South and Southwestern. Regardless, and maybe I'm biased... but this is one of many reasons why the state of Texas is awesome! :)

In Case You're Interested...

Earlier, I mentioned a past blog post about American beauties in the South and Southeast. Take a look at my past post if you are interested:

"American Beauties: South and Southeast" (John's Blog Space)

And if you want to know more about the SXSW (South by Southwest) show, visit: www.sxsw.com/.

That's all for this post.

I hope you enjoyed this blog post! What do you think?

Do you consider Texas a Southern state, a Southwestern state, or perhaps both?

Buses

John B. Marine | 9/15/2017 02:48:00 AM | | | | Be the first to comment!
Carry lots of people on land and on city streets or country roads. How do you do so? Of course- on a bus! You probably rode one to school as a kid. You probably went around town in one. This is a just-for-fun post about buses. I know I blogged about the Volkswagen SambaBus in the past, but this blog post is about commercial buses. This is also a post I had sitting on my hard drive long ago but never completed until now.

NOTE: While this blog post is a "Just for Fun" post, all material offered is for educational purposes.

Buses in General

From school buses to city buses, these vehicles are meant to carry around loads of people comfortably. Passengers range from students, civilians, tourists, music bands, sports teams, and more. There are many buses for many different applications. A lot of responsibility is required in carrying loads of people. Nobody wants a deranged or unattentive driver behind the wheel of a bus, let alone any other kind of commercial vehicle. You wouldn't want to bear the burden of putting multiple peoples' lives at stake with poor operation of a bus now, would you? Most buses usually go around town, but some even go cross-country. Usually Greyhound buses here in the United States are known for their long-distance bus route travel. Some people have unique looking buses as well as some buses unique to certain cultures and locations. Regardless, buses do a great job carrying and transporting people across any sort of distance.

Because buses can be a means of getting people safely across certain distances, one big advantage to bus riding is that you don't have to worry about wasting gas/petrol with your vehicle to go out and about. This blog post bears a little connection personally because my brother's biological father used to operate buses. My brother and I even had spent money on bus rides around Houston before my brother eventually got his first vehicle. Even if you have to pay to ride buses, at least you are doing somewhat a favor for most major cities by riding clean on a bus.

My time riding buses to and from school has taken me towards some shuttle buses and even some proper school buses. I knew I was going to possibly have friends of mine from my school be part of a bus route. Or maybe I would make friends with students who went to other schools. Either way, the school bus was quite the childhood memory for me. They are as much a part of my grade school past as anything.

Let's take a look at some pictures of buses. Please go to the next section.

Buses in Pictures

Here are a bunch of bus types in general. I'll try to feature as many as I can. I will try to find replacement images in case I can't use any of them (for reasons such as copyright).

School Buses.

school bus
^ from: myersequip.com - Time to go to school, kiddies!

A few times back in my grade school days, I missed the bus. Or the bus just didn't show up. At least you know what bus was coming when you saw something big and yellow driving through your neighborhood each weekday morning and each weekday afternoon. Manufacturers of school buses include (but are not limited to) Pioneer, Bluebird, Ford, and GMC among many others. Their job (obviously) is to carry school students to and from school. Usually there are certain bus routes that are followed so that individuals can safely go from a bus stop location to the bus.

Shuttle Buses.

shuttle bus
^ from: www.blogdenuevayork.es (best I could find) - Shuttle buses don't carry as many people, but they still are viable forms of transportation to get people to places for most places that aren't too far away.

Shuttle buses may not carry as many people as school buses or commercial buses, but shuttle buses still accomplish the task of getting across many people safely from place to place. The majority of shuttle buses usually can be seen carrying people from shuttle bus stations to airports. Some others safely take people from one place to another. A vast majority of shuttle buses are also customizable commercial vehicles. For example, you could have a Ford Transit or a Ford F-650 with a bus body attached to it to serve as a shuttle bus. They may also be commercial vans that serve as shuttle buses.

To be honest, I didn't even think about shuttle buses for this topic initially because I focused so much on bigger buses.

City Buses.

city bus
^ from: (YouTube) - Want to get around the city but don't have a car (or prefer walking)? Get on a city bus!

A number of major cities have their own bus lines. We have METRO here in Houston. These buses can even be driving advertisements with a number of promotions on them. Europe has some very stylish buses from the likes of AM General, Volvo, Mercedes-Benz, SCANIA, MAN Truck and Bus, SETRA, and more. I am not sure how some of these European offerings would fare here in the United States, but these are some stylish buses that operate in Europe. Some city buses even allow access for handicapped access. Some cities have taken on initiatives to provide cleaner and more efficient buses for use. So some buses are powered by alternative fuels or are cleaner in emissions. Some city buses may even have perks such as Wi-Fi access and more. Some city buses are of decent length while certain others have an extended section attached to a bus to allow for more people to ride. Either way, their goal is to safely carry loads of people around town on roads and highways.

Charter Buses.

charter buses
^ from: www.hismajestycoach.com (best I could find) - Stylishly enjoy riding in style by riding in a charter bus.

Charter buses are almost the equivalent of riding in a passenger plane. These buses were designed to get people to places in style. What makes charter buses different is that they are very luxurious inside. Some even have things like televisions, Wi-Fi access, and more. Think of this more like first class bus riding. Charter buses can range from stylishly carrying people to even carrying around business and performers. They can go around town or even across the country.

Double-Decker Buses.

double decker bus
^ from: sciencehistorylover.wordpress.com - Need to carry around MANY more people? A double-decker bus might do the job.

If a city has loads of people or if many people want to get around town, a regular bus won't do. So go double-decker! Many people will immediately think of cities like London and Hong Kong (but especially London) in regards to double-decker buses. I've never been on or seen a double-decker bus in person, but I'm pretty sure that they do the job in carrying around loads more people and with not as short of length. Double decker buses handle about double the amount of passengers as an extended bus, but they are taller than very long buses.

Tour Buses.

tour buses
^ from: www.dayoutinlondon.com - Why not take a tour by taking a ride on a tour bus?

Tour buses are not only fun to be on, but also great for tourism. These tour buses offer a fun form of transportation for entertainment.

Promotional Buses.

promotional buses
^ from: rockbandaide.com - Some buses, such as this one, are decked out in unique livery mostly for promotion or for certain music groups, businesses, and the like.

Bonus Videos!

Because I love you people, how about some bonus material? I found for you some bus videos! Enjoy the following:

I actually tried to find a decent school bus video, but considering the average audience of my blog, I was unable to find a decent one. So I'll leave it up to you to find a school bus video on YouTube if you are interested: "school bus" search results on YouTube.

I also tried to find a basic video featuring shuttle buses, but the only ones I could come across are conversions of shuttle buses. However, I did find THIS video which should interest you in regards to shuttle buses:

Drone Racing League

John B. Marine | 1/24/2017 01:18:00 AM | | | Be the first to comment!
The Drone Racing League is a racing league featuring drones. The DRL is like a video game come to life. Imagine using a virtual reality headset trying to pilot your drone through a neon-lit course with many ups and downs and loops. The DRL is surely a competition that is catching steam and is very intriguing. The ESPN networks are showing these races in highlight shows. Various people worldwide are competing in these events. I don't know everything about the Drone Racing League, but I will make the effort to introduce you all to this fine series.

I understand there are other drone racing series, but this blog post is focused on one of the many- the Drone Racing League.

Drone Racing League

Considering how popular drones have become the past five to ten years, a series like the Drone Racing League is something that is really catching on. Imagine a race in which you pilot a drone at some high speeds through a neon-lit course with a number of different obstacles. You have to be able to control your drone around a specific course. You have to do things like weave between columns, through certain loops, various gates, and more.

These racing drones are controlled by a drone remote control along with the pilots wearing virtual reality headsets to see the drones in action. These are drones that may light up pretty in neon and such, but they are very much business machines made to take on some unique courses. The races all start with the drones perched on some platforms and take off ready to go. From there, it is up to the pilots to navigate their drones from the Start position to the Finish gate.

Most of the courses are usually set in venues ranging from certain abandoned buildings to even some proper sporting locales. So the various venues are quite unique and have some interesting character as drones fly around trying to take on the various obstacles. It is really one of the more unique sports out there.

Video Preview.

Let me give you an idea of what the racing is like with the Drone Racing League. Check out the video content I have provided for this blog post:

^ Drone Racing Through the Miami Dolphins Stadium

Pretty cool, huh?

Drone Racing League: Final Thoughts

As one of a number of different drone racing leagues, the final thoughts expressed here will be varied.

Final Thoughts in General.

I think the Drone Racing League can really catch on if it hasn't already. It is surely unique in the racing venues and in some of the competitive drone racing. It takes a good deal of skill to pilot these machines and to maneuver them across some interesting courses. I want to imagine how many more courses can be created. I can even imagine what if more fans started watching a lot of the races live (if possible).

The Future of Drone Racing?

The Drone Racing League is showing that it is possible for this kind of racing to be as popular among robotic series like Robot Wars or similar series. I want to imagine more people maybe take part in drone racing much like there is sufficient interest in remote control racing. If racing with average RC cars is popular, this drone racing could end up being just as popular.

Same Name

John B. Marine | 11/25/2016 10:53:00 PM | | | | | Be the first to comment!
Know people whom share the same name as you? Are there any famous people you like who have the same or similar name as yours? This is actually a blog post I wanted to start up a long time ago... only I've only completed it now. For this blog post, this is where I ask my readers/viewers if there are any famous people whom share the same name as you or similar that you like or admire.

However many people you can recall may mostly depend on your name. Since my name is John, "John" and "Jon" are actually going to be more popular than a lot of other names. Heck... "John" is even in The Bible!

Anyhow, let's begin!

Same Name

In case you don't know, my name is John. So I will be looking at some folks with my name or with certain variations of my name.

How This Post Works.

Here is how this post works:
• personality must have the same name or a similar name as yours.
• if you go by a certain English name, only those with the same or similar name is allowed.

So for example, if your name is Don or Donald, you think of someone like Donald Trump. If your name is Carly, you may think of someone like singer Carly Rae Jepsen (call me maybe?). Your name may be Lily, and you think of someone like Lily Allen. Your name may be Bill, and people who come to mind include Bill Clinton or William Tell. Ladies named Jennifer may know of Jenny Chu or Jennifer Hudson. If you know your name in another language, then it is fair to know your name is Joe/Joseph and know someone like José Bautista.

Conversely, this is not a post about if you have a first name which is a surname. For example, this is not about if your name is Carlton and think of people like Larry Carlton or Vanessa Carlton.

Got it? So let me begin with various folks with the same name as mine.

Same Name: John or Jon (in my case)

This will be my list of notable folks with my name or a similar name. I'll try to identify a number of folks with my same name. You don't necessarily have to like those who share your name. Having said that, here are a number of folks who have the same name as me.

These are not the most famous ones with my name, but several folks with my name just to show you what this post is about. I'll be mostly brief with some different names.

• John Hancock
When asking for a signature, usually people will refer to it as signing your "John Hancock." John Hancock was one who signed on the Declaration of Independence. The John Hancock known these days is an insurance company.

Need some help with your History lesson? Check this for more on John Hancock: John Hancock - American Revolution on HISTORY.com.

• John Elway
John Elway is one of the greatest quarterbacks in NFL history. He is a multi-time Super Bowl champion doing his damage with the Denver Broncos. John Elway was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2004. He is currently the general manager and executive vice president of the Denver Broncos.

• John Force

John Force is one of the winningest racing drivers in any discipline of motorsport. As of November 25, 2016; John Force is a 16-time Funny Car champion in NHRA Drag Racing. He even won the championship every year in the 1990s except 1993. His first championship was in 1990. His most recent was in 2013. John Force is an overall great guy. He'll even be a good story teller with his racing career. But don't take my word for it...

^ The Best of John Force

• John Cena
I honestly don't know why people hate on John Cena. He's one of the most consistent and capable wrestlers ever. Maybe he's not like a part of the WWE's "Attitude Era," but he's the best wrestler in the WWE for his era. He's currently a 15-time WWE World Heavyweight Champion. Only Ric Flair has more reigns as World Champion with 16.

Besides wrestling, John Cena has done quite well in media ranging from acting to being a recording artist. Want to get yourself going? Here's some John Cena raps for you:

^ ""

• Jon Miller
People mostly know of play-by-play announcer Jon Miller as the voice of ESPN's Sunday Night Baseball as well as him as the play-by-play announcer for the San Francisco Giants of Major League Baseball.

• Juan Pablo Montoya
John in Spanish is "Juan," so here's my first Juan entry. I would have never followed (then) CART had it not been for Juan Pablo Montoya. The native of Bogota, Colombia is one of the best race car drivers today. Among his list of accomplishments are being a two-time Indianapolis 500 champion, the 1999 CART Champion, and what I think is the toughest thing to do in all of racing- win a Formula One race. Juan Pablo Montoya is surely Hall of Fame material if he isn't already.

• Juan Manuel Fangio
One of the best Formula 1 racers in history was Juan Miguel Fangio. In the early years of Formula 1, he was the F1 World Champion five times. Many regard him as the greatest F1 racer that ever lived.

• Giancarlo Stanton
I learned "Giancarlo" is a combination of "John Charles," so that expands the array of names somewhat. Giancarlo Stanton is a beast of a baseball player. He is known for being a solid baseball player as one who furiously hit home runs. You hang 'em, he bangs 'em- HARD. It's like you hold your breath when he bangs balls out of the ballpark.

Other Notable Johns/Jons.

A few others to make mention of...

• Lil' Jon (Jonathan Smith) - hip-hop recording artist.
• John Legend - R&B recording artist.
• John Cougar Mellencamp - rock music legend.
• John Heisman - legendary college football coach, trophy named for single-best college football player.
• John O'Korn - current college quarterback, played for Houston but now with Michigan.
• Johnathan Joseph - professional gridiron football player (currently of the Houston Texans)
• John David Booty - professional quarterback (and former Houston Texan)
• John Stockton - legendary basketball player.
• John Wall - professional basketball player
• John Smoltz - legendary baseball pitcher.
• Jonathan Toews - professional hockey player from Canada.
• John Andretti - professional race car driver from the famous Andretti family.
• John Kernan - motorsports broadcaster and anchor of former ESPN show "RPM2Night."
• Giancarlo Fisichella - former Formula 1 race car driver.

That's some of the many different Johns or Jons out there. I could name more, but I'll stop here.

I hope you found this post fun. So let me ask you...

What famous people share your name? How many such people can you identify?

That's it for this blog post. Remember to Subscribe and Follow my blog(s) for more of my content when they become available. Thank you for reading! Take care and be well.

Dolphins

John B. Marine | 7/17/2016 02:22:00 AM | | | Be the first to comment!
Dolphins may be the most fascinating sea creatures in existence. They are credited as being some of the most intelligent creatures in the world. They are also rather friendly mammals and can even pull some amazing tricks and stunts. You won't hear of a "Dolphin Apocalypse" or anything. These are amazing creatures. This blog post is not meant to be a detailed post about dolphins, but rather a brief and casual post on them. So I hope you'll enjoy this post.

NOTE: A lot of the material I researched beforehand mostly come from the Wikipedia entry on dolphins.

Dolphins

How about I kick off this blog post with a dolphin picture? Here goes (picture will be replaced if I can't use them for certain reasons):

dolphin
^ from: www.visitkythera.gr - Dolphins are surely some of the most fascinating creatures alive.

Yours truly made some tribute art LONG ago featuring a dolphin. Check this out:

dolphin art
^ from: (my Facebook albums) - This was some tribute art I made a long time ago featuring a dolphin.

Dolphins are incredibly interesting. Can you think of any sort of famous dolphins? Many know of Flipper. Many gamers know of Ecco. Some others even recall dolphins helping Mario, Luigi, and Yoshi in "Super Mario World." No matter what, you can't help but be fascinated with dolphins. A friend of mine from my college days loves dolphins, and so I kind of thought of her when I came up with this blog post.

I guess what I find most fascinating about dolphins is just how intelligent they are in addition to being very friendly. Dolphins are mostly not predatory animals, though I read they tend to kill porpoises as I was researching this topic. Some dolphins are even used by military. From what I read on that front, dolphins in military use are more like the water equivalent of bomb-sniffing dogs or try to move out water mines. There was even a study once that suggested that dolphins could help boost the mood in people who suffer from depression.

Needless to say... dolphins almost seem like natural wonders to us all.

Communication.

Dolphins use certain sounds and calls to communicate with others. These include some rather loud noises and even some clicking sounds. Take a look at this video for a sample of dolphins answering questions:

^ Super Smart Dolphin Answers Questions - Extraordinary Animals - Earth

I mentioned Ecco the Dolphin earlier. If you played the classic Genesis/Megadrive game series before, communication is important to conversate and even navigate your way through the game. It is a fantasy game, but it is just an example of dolphins communicating.

Dolphin Tricks!

Let me share with you this video of dolphins performing tricks. It may not be like what you'd see at Sea World, but this is a fine showcase of dolphins and some of the tricks and stunts they can pull. Note also the trainers playing with the dolphins:

^ "Dolphin Show - Five Dolphins perform High jumps, Great speed and underwater tricks"

Now that you have insight on dolphins, let me share some final thoughts.

Dolphins: Final Thoughts

Dolphins are amazing creatures. Just learning about them and what they are capable of make them some of the most fascinating mammals alive. They are intelligent and playful. I might even say they are about as beautiful of creatures as horses (which I blogged about long ago). So if you get a chance to see or interact with dolphins, it is a most incredible experience.

I'll blog about [almost] anything here on "John's Blog Space." That even includes dolphins. I hope you got to enjoy this post and maybe take away a few things about dolphins. I'm sorry I can't fully help you with your homework assignment or essay project about dolphins, but you have just a little insight on them. Be sure to Subscribe and Follow this blog for more goodness from yours truly. Until next time... thank you for reading! Take care and be well.
