Can't Win 'em All

John B. Marine | 5/29/2015 04:18:00 PM | | | | |
The Houston Rockets' loss to Golden State in the NBA's 2014-2015 Western Conference Finals teaches us a life lesson- you can't win every battle. Sometimes, you still lose no matter how well equipped and planned you are to win. Sometimes, you just simply lose to a better opponent- like what the Rockets faced. It is perfectly fine to train and equip yourself to take on any challenge life or the world has to offer. One thing you have to learn is that for as much as you train for success, victory is never guaranteed. An aspect of life is taking defeat. How do you take the defeat? Do you let failure take you over and define your persona for time to come, or do you learn from failure and try to make yourself stronger for the future?

The moment you act like you are impervious to defeat is when you already have lost a battle or a challenge. Nothing in life is ever guaranteed- even if victory seems like a foregone conclusion. Nobody thought (for example) James Buster Douglas would knock out "Iron" Mike Tyson. And don't even get me started on players guaranteeing wins. Most recently, you had Manny Pacquiao saying "Relax, I'm going to win" when he took on Floyd Mayweather Jr. Us boxing fans know who won that one.

Just because you fail at something doesn't mean you are a failure. It just means you have to learn to move on and make yourself better for the future. You either did not have the experience or was not equipped and trained enough to succeed. Or maybe... you just didn't have good luck or good fortune on your side. That also happens. These things can be enhanced and improved (except fortune and luck, of course). You can't let failure or consistent failure define you and run your life. Just be as strong as you can be and make the most of all of your opportunities. While you can prepare yourself to win at almost anything, just remember...

You can't win 'em all.
