American Beauties: South and Southeast

John Marine | 6/05/2013 10:58:00 PM | | | | | | | | | | | | | | |
(UPDATED: April 8, 2014)

I salute my American beauties with this American Beauties series. The first in this series of posts features the largest region- the South. If you think "the best women are Southern," then this post will prove you right. Various personalities ranging from celebrities to bloggers will be featured in this post and others in the "American Beauties" series. Welcome to a new series of "Beauties" posts. And more importantly, welcome to "John's Blog Space!"

NOTE: Updates to the "American Beauties" series only pertain to contextual information, video additions, change of pictures, etc. Each post will be updated to include links to each post in the "American Beauties" series once new posts in the series are posted. Each post of this series will be linked so you can access all posts once the series is complete.

APR 8 2014 - added more personalities

NOTE: Having to load more embedded videos means lower browser performance, so fewer videos will be shown. Click on the links to view videos away from this blog if you want to view certain videos away from John's Blog Space. I am doing this as a performance measure for my blog in addition to using Jump Breaks.

--- American Beauties Series ---

Beautiful American ladies. I love doing these "Beauties" posts regarding some of the world's loveliest ladies, but I have decided to go close to home for this series. What you will see here is my list of various beauties representing the United States. You may not know who I may feature. What you probably will be aware of is certain personalities I've showcased based on certain interests of mine. As you may be aware in my blog posts, while I do mention those in Beauties posts as women, some of my Beauties posts may NOT be exclusively feminine. So you'll see a little of everything.

Here is a preview of what all this series will entail. There is no really serious designation in picking out a set region for which to feature each location. I will break up my American Beauties focus into five individual regions:

American Beauties Series: Rundown.

Here is a look at how I'll be doing this:

• American Beauties - Southern (YOU ARE HERE)
(REGION: Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Tennessee, Kentucky, Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia, and Washington, District of Columbia)

American Beauties - Northeast
(REGION: Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine)

American Beauties - Midwest and Central
(REGION: North Dakota, South Dakota, Nebraska, Kansas, Missouri, Iowa, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, and Michigan)

American Beauties - Mountain
(REGION: Colorado, Wyoming, New Mexico, Arizona, Utah, Nevada, Idaho, Montana)

American Beauties: Pacific
(REGION: California, Oregon, Washington, Alaska, and Hawaii)

American Beauties: This Region.

The region I will feature in this post is of Southern beauties. These consist of personalities from the South and Mid-South. I feature this section first in this series since I am from this region. It is the largest region I will feature since so many locations- 17, in fact- are part of it. I have defined a number of locations to comprise the "South" region of my "American Beauties" series. You will see personalities from or representing the following locations:

• Texas
• Oklahoma
• Louisiana
• Arkansas
• Mississippi
• Alabama
• Tennessee
• Kentucky
• Florida
• Georgia
• South Carolina
• North Carolina
• Virginia
• West Virginia
• Maryland
• Delaware
• District of Columbia

I used "locations" instead of "states" because of the District of Columbia- which is not a state. The personalities I feature don't necessarily follow a certain order as long as I mention them. I will try to find at least one personality from each location. As a result, expect no less than 17 featured persons. I may or may not succeed in finding personalities from each location, but I will definitely try.

Most of my "Beauties" posts are helped when I add pictures and videos to showcase the featured personalities. However, just mentioning certain people and putting in links is also helpful. I want to try to showcase certain personalities while also thinking of things like the performance of my site. So for some of these, you will see just a link mentioning the certain personalities. I do still hope you enjoy my tireless work. My Internet was down this past weekend, so I spent most of my time preparing drafts of blog posts.

Let's begin a new Beauties series!

--- American Beauties: South and Southeast ---

(REGION: Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Tennessee, Kentucky, Virginia, and West Virginia, and Washington, District of Columbia)

If you think the best girls are Southern, then you're going to love this one. You will be introduced to many Southern ladies. I'm going to start off the American Beauties region with my native region. All of the featured personalities are either natives of, or born in the region specified. This region consists of the Mid-South and the American Southeast. However, I am labeling it all as "South."

Click on any hyperlinked headers to visit their official websites or fan pages. I have also included links of various blog posts I've done in the past that may interest you if you enjoyed my featuring of each personality. Each featured personality is represented with at least one of the following: a link, a picture, a video, a blog post. I don't just name-bomb each featured personality.

Natalie (Facebook Fan Page).

I need to start with a fellow Houston-area lady to kick things off. Otherwise, it wouldn't make sense to feature my native region without a native of this area.
Natalie Alvarado (also known as "Nat Boogie") was born in Clear Lake, TX, USA. She is best known for her hit "Goin' Crazy" along with her "Energy" song featuring Baby Bash. Natalie was a Houston Rockets Power Dancer who went on to become a recording artist. There was even a makeup line called "Goin' Crazy" named after Natalie's hit song. Speaking of which, here is that hit song from 2005:

^ "Natalie - Goin' Crazy"

If you want to read an old blog post I did about Natalie, visit this blog post: "Natalie" (John's Blog Space).

Shay Shaunte'.

(ADDED: June 7, 2013)
Shay Shaunte
^ from: - Plus size model and Houston's own Shay Shaunte'.

One of my most famous blog posts on "John's Blog Space" features Shay Shaunte. This woman is a Houston native whom shows that curvy women can be every bit as beautiful as those slim and slender. She is a lovely lady whom I have great respect for.

Eva Longoria.

Time to go from Southeast Texas to South Texas and talk about a sweet petite named Eva Longoria. (Born: March 15, 1975)-year old Eva Longoria is from Rachal, Texas. Many know the 5'2" actress for her roles in "Desperate Housewives." Here is an interview Eva Longoria did on The Dr. Oz Show:

^ "Eva Longoria's Health Crusade, Pt 1 The Dr. Oz Show"

The link I provided is a link to a profile on another site.

Selena Gomez.

Selena Gomez was born in New York City, but she is very much a Texas girl. She hails from a Dallas-area city called Grand Prairie. Many people know of Selena from Disney's "Wizards of Waverly Place." Many others know of Selena Gomez for her time dating Justin Bieber. Apart from acting, Selena Gomez has also shown her strength as a musician. She's sung a number of songs like "Tell Me Something I Don't Know" among others. Selena also has a band called The Scene. I think she is extremely cute and sweet. I think it was 2006 or so when I first seen Selena Gomez. Even in this time where there aren't as many good girls in the Hollywood scene, Selena really shines as a vibrant and positive personality. Even today, Selena Gomez does dress a bit sexy, but she still retains an extreme modicum of modesty and doesn't overstep her boundaries.

This was a post I did about Selena Gomez LONG ago: "Selena Gomez" (John's Blog Space)

Demi Lovato.

The rock star of Disney's "Camp Rock" and "Sonny With a Chance" named Demetria Devonne Lovato is simply... Demi Lovato. She's also a Texas girl, even though she was born in New Mexico- Albuquerque, New Mexico in fact. Demi is a bit more edgy than Selena but remains sweet for the most part. Demi also represents Grand Prairie, Texas. I usually know that wherever there was Demi Lovato, Selena Gomez was not too far behind.

Demi Lovato was someone I blogged about in this old post: "Demi Lovato" (John's Blog Space).

Dixie Carter, President of TNA Wrestling.

(ADDED: June 13, 2013)

Dixie Carter TNA
^ from: (links to profile) - iMPACT Wrestling president, Dixie Carter.

There are multiple Dixie Carters, so I have to specify the one in question. I am referring to Dixie Carter- the president of Total Non-Stop Action (TNA) Wrestling. The average chauvinist or inconsiderate jerk would say something about women not worthy of or supposed to manage a professional wrestling promotion. Dixie Carter never got the memo. She is a beautiful (born October 6, 1964)-year old who manages the biggest professional wrestling promotion not named World Wrestling Entertainment. She is from Dallas, Texas and very much Southern, though she calls Nashville, TN home.

Nora Kapche, of "The Coupon Conte$$a".

The "Coupon Contessa" is one Nora Capche. Nora is a blogger whom specializes in discussing deals as well as in saving money. Her blog is called "Coupon Conte$$a." Often times on the Live Well Network show "Deals," Nora Kapche is often featured. Besides her own expertise in saving money, Nora also sometimes shares some interesting advice on do-it-yourself (DIY) material to clean up around the house or perform certain tasks without spending lots of money. No matter what advice she offers, you can be sure she will not disappoint. Oh, and did I mention that she's very pretty to me? Otherwise, why would she end up in one of my "Beauties" posts? She's a Houston-area girl, so it's always nice to salute my own Houston-area folks.

Since I mentioned "Deals," you can read my old blog post reviewing this Live Well Network show: "Deals" (John's Blog Space).

Nadine Moon (profile on another site).

Nadine Moon is the founder of one of the finest cake makers in America- "Who Made the Cake!" Nadine herself is a beautiful lady who is as unique as the amazing and unusual cakes made by this amazing company. Just like Nora Kapche, Nadine Moon is a very lovely lady. You should really see some of the unique cakes designed by Who Made the Cake! To see for yourself, visit

Reba McEntire.

Reba McEntire
^ from: - Country music legend Reba McEntire is a native Oklahoman.

While Texas has some beautiful ladies (maybe I'm a bit biased :D), one of the most beautiful Oklahomans is no doubt Reba McEntire. This country music legend has one of the finest voices past or present in country music. She has even lent her talents to acting. While I haven't seen the "Reba" comedy series, I do respect her for taking her talents outside of music. Even Mr. I-Don't-Listen-to-Country-Music me has tremendous respect for Reba McEntire.

There are more to be featured! I am including this Jump Break for performance reasons. Make sure you are reading the full post. Niki, of "tiny sailor".

The blog called "tiny sailor" is of an Arkansas girl named Nicole (nicknamed Niki). What makes her style unique is her love of the beach and beach life. It is safe to say she is someone who prefers the carefree lifestyle while also enjoying beach life. Many of her outfits either have a vintage theme or some kind of beachy theme. Either way, it is a real treat to visit her blog to gauge her style.

Angelle Sampey (Facebook Fan Page).

When I first heard of this accomplished motorcycle drag racer, I known her as Angelle Seeling. Today (at least as of this post), she is Angelle Sampey. She has racked up multiple wins in NHRA Drag Racing. I have tremendous respect for her. She is a native of New Orleans, Louisiana. Angelle no longer races, but she certainly is one of the best in the business as far as drag racing is concerned. This video shows you Angelle light up the quarter mile on two wheels:

^ "Angelle: Winningest Female Racer in NHRA History"

Ellen DeGeneres.

One of the funniest women in America is comedian Ellen DeGeneres. This (born: January 26, 1958)-year old lesbian comedian was born in Metairie, Louisiana. Her show, "Ellen," is perhaps the best daytime comedy show on television today. In a sense, I would even argue of boyish-looking ladies, Ellen DeGeneres is one of the loveliest. It usually isn't possible or conventional to say a boyish-looking lady is among certain beautiful ladies, but I think Ellen DeGeneres is one of the better-looking ones (not to take cheap shots at certain boyish-looking girls). Perhaps one of the weirdest moments was when in the older days of E! Network's "Fashion Police," Ellen DeGeneres was once voted [comically] as the Worst Dressed MALE at a certain awards show! Here is a sample of Ellen DeGeneres and her comedy:

^ "Fitch, Please"

Just to let you know... I MAY talk about this on "StyleSpace by JBM"- my fashion blog. If you want to visit my fashion blog, go ahead and click on this link: StyleSpace, by John B. Marine.

Venessia, of "Style 4 Curves".

Venessia is a plus size blogger from the state where Britney Spears was born. Right- Mississippi. "Style 4 Curves" is the personal blogging space of Venessia where she showcases her unique outfits and various other items. Some of her non-fashion posts include book reviews, for example. As far as her style is concerned, Venessia is nothing short of fierce. She normally wears a handful of lovely dress and skirt outfits. Pops of color and animal print are trademarks of her style. Feel free to take a look at her blog.

Anitra (NitraaB).

Alabama's Anitra is a YouTuber who specializes in beauty. Her unique and bubbly personality makes her one of the stylish ladies on YouTube. I personally think she's funny and has a cute accent. My respect for her began when I randomly looked up something on YouTube and saw one of her videos. I since appreciated her personality and charm that she brings to her videos, which she does very well. Here is a demonstration of this alluring (and sometimes silly) Alabama girl:

^ "Soft Neutral Makeup"

Keiko Lynn.

One of blogging's most beautiful and most fabulous ladies is Keiko Lynn Groves. The creator of Postlapsaria makes her designs in Brooklyn, but this American (who is also 25% Japanese) was born in South Florida. Her blog posts consist mostly of outfit posts and makeup insights. Keiko Lynn is a trendsetter. She doesn't give into trends. She is more leader than follower. This is among many reasons why Keiko Lynn is one of the finest bloggers in the blogosphere. Get to know Keiko Lynn:

^ "Keiko Lynn: All About Me"

Kelly Kelly.

Former WWE Diva Kelly Kelly is a very pretty blonde. She reached the top of the ladder when she became the WWE Divas champion. Kelly Kelly is a Southern girl from Jacksonville, Florida. I have something in common with Kelly Kelly- both of us were born on the same calendar day- January 15. Just that Kelly Kelly was (born: January 15, 1985). I learned through Wikipedia that her real name is Barbie Blank.

Paula Deen.

Georgia girl Paula Ann Deen has endured a lot through her life. I admire and respect the (born: January 19, 1947)-year old Paula Deen for her inspiration. Many others (myself included) know her for her cooking. Her restaurant is known as The Lady N' Sons in Savannah, GA. She is really one of the most respectful and most entertaining people in the world. Her latest battles involve diabetes. Paula Deen may have lost weight, but she hasn't lost her beauty. I personally think Paula Deen is a beautiful woman. Usually on TV, you can catch two of her shows on Food Network- "Paula's Home Cooking" and "Paula's Best Dishes." I am most fond of Paula Deen for her inspiration and her determination.

My old blog post on Paula Deen: "Paula Deen" (John's Blog Space)

Elliott Alexzander (Honorable Mention!).

(ADDED: April 8, 2014)
The House of Alexzander is home to an Atlanta fellow who is gender-fluid. What does that mean? The main thing Elliott stresses regards dressing up in feminine clothing despite the fact he is male. An outfit that would look cute/edgy/sexy on a regular girl is done almost seamlessly by Elliott. Because he's wearing feminine-type clothing, he would loathe being labeled a crossdresser, and he is NOT a crossdresser. This fellow just wears feminine clothing and couldn't really care less what anyone says negative about his style. Judge for yourself on Elliott Alexzander's style by visiting his blog.

Vanna White (IMDb Profile).

For somewhere around 30 years, (born: February 18, 1957)-year old Vanna White has long been the beautiful lady sporting a beautiful dress, touching tiles on Wheel of Fortune. Not many people know Vanna White outside of Wheel of Fortune. In fact, you might call her America's favorite crocheter. Vanna is VERY much Southern, hailing from North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. She still gets it done on "Wheel of Fortune" even after all these years. Maybe the coolest thing about Vanna White is how she can be so glamourous on TV... but so down-to-earth and sweet. So Vanna White is a diva, but not a TRUE diva. I remember her outside of "Wheel of Fortune" as making a guest appearance in one of my all-time favorite comedies- Married With Children.

DID YOU KNOW... that the first puzzle on "Wheel of Fortune" was "General Hospital?"

Jamie Howe.

Jamie Howe is a Tennesseean beauty whom many know as a motorsports reporter as well as a host of "On the Edge." Most of her work covers sportscar racing on Speed Channel and on ESPN. Jamie Howe is also a producer. I have great respect for her on-air work. She smiles brightly and looks lovely with her diamond-like blue eyes and great voice. Here is a demo reel of the beautiful Jamie Howe:

^ "Jamie Howe 2011 Demo Reel"

Hillary Scott.

Hillary Scott is the (born: April 1, 1986)-year old lead vocalist of the country music trio Lady Antebellum. I am very much a fan of Lady Antebellum and their amazing singing. According to videos I've seen, she admits to love wearing yoga pants. She is a native of Nashville, Tennessee. This video features the beautiful Hillary Scott. She's in the center as Lady Antebellum sings "As You Turn Away," shown below:

• "Lady Antebellum - "As You Turn Away" Knoxville 11/11/11"

So I don't forget, let me congratulate Hillary Scott on becoming a mother. Since this portion is about a member of Lady Antebellum, the link is to Lady Antebellum's website. My blog post on Lady Antebellum (if interested): "Lady Antebellum" (John's Blog Space).

Crystal Gayle.

Rapunzel has nothing on this long haired beauty. Crystal Gayle is a country singer from Paintsville, Kentucky. Want to hear her sing? Here is your video inspiration:

• "Crystal Gayle - Don't It Make My Brown Eyes Blue"

Amy Barbera.

The inspirational singer Amy Barbera is based in Florida but originally from Hagerstown, Maryland. She is both an inspiration and a survivor- having dealt with an eating disorder in her life. Her voice and her music are both incredible to listen to and to savor. Don't believe me? Have a listen to Amy Barbera sing:

^ "Amy Barbera "Walking On The Stars" Animated Music Video 2012"

Here is a blog post I did on Amy Barbera: "Amy Barbera" (John's Blog Space).

Mickie James.

Hardcore Country! TNA Knockout Mickie James is one of the most successful women wrestlers today. She has been the WWE Women's Champion when she was with World Wrestling Entertainment. Just recently (as of June 3, 2013), the native of Montpelier, Virginia who used to serve tables at Olive Garden started a new reign as TNA Knockouts champion, defeating former champion Velvet Sky- albeit in controversial fashion.

Mary Lou Retton.

Olympic gymnast Mary Lou Retton is a beauty born in Fairmont, West Virginia. The (born: January 24, 1968)-year old became the first woman outside of eastern Europe to win Olympic Gold in the Individual All-Around competition. She accomplished this feat in the 1984 Los Angeles Olympic Summer Games. She had to have surgery, so this dream almost never happened. This gymnast is truly petite- 4'9" for someone whom has captivated audiences. She has loved tumbling and gymnastics for as long as she can remember. This little lady was determined enough and passionate enough to accomplish getting Olympic Gold. Mary Lou Retton's fantastic tumbling has even lent itself to a kids' show on PBS called "Mary Lou's Flip Flop Shop." And after all- nothing can be more beautiful than being an Olympic gold medalist. Learn more about Mary Lou Retton by visiting her home page listed above this paragraph.

Stacy Keibler (Facebook Fan Page).

Before finding fame elsewhere, Stacy Keibler was a WWE Diva. The native of Rosedale, Baltimore, Maryland is famous for her very long legs. Those long legs contribute to her 5'11" height.

Kimberly, of Sensible Stylista.

(ADDED: April 8, 2014)
Korean cutie Kimberly Kong is a fashion blogger from Baltimore, MD, USA. I first learned of her through her LOOKBOOK posts. She showcases her style which is mostly of classy outfits. She does dress things down often times besides her chic outfits. Her range of styles is immense. So go visit her blog and check out her various styles.

Sara Lazarus.

Jazz singer Sara Lazarus is someone I recently blogged about. Her singing is sultry and sweet, and a lot of her songs are very fun. She is from Wilmington, Delaware.
You may have seen her music videos if you read my blog post on Sara Lazarus. So if you've read that post, here is a bonus song I am including about Sara Lazarus:

^ "it's all right with me"

More on Sara Lazarus from my blog: "Sara Lazarus" (John's Blog Space).

I featured Amerie Rogers in my "East Asian Beauties" blog post. This Blasian (Black + Asian) beauty is of African-American and Korean descent. Amerie was born in Washington, D.C. and attended High School in Anchorage, Alaska. Among some of her hit songs are "Why Don't We Fall in Love" and "One Thing."

Farrah Fawcett (Honorable Mention!)

The late Farrah Fawcett was one of my fellow Texans- born in Corpus Christi, TX. She was one of the three divas who comprised Charlie's Angels. There was no denying just how much of a beautiful woman Farrah was, as I'm pretty sure she was almost every heterosexual male's dream girl back in her time. She was born February 2, 1947; and died June 25, 2009. She was 62 years old when she died.

Selena Quintanilla-Pérez (Honorable Mention!)

Tejano superstar Selena Quintanilla-Pérez's life was taken away too early. She was born in Lake Jackson, Texas on April 16, 1971. At the height of her music career, her dark fate was delivered at a meeting in Corpus Christi in a motel between herself and the president of her fan club, Yolanda Saldivar. The story of Selena was re-told in the movie "Selena" with Jennifer Lopez playing as Selena. Her final ever concert was at the Houston Astrodome in 1995. She was killed at the tender age of 23- FAR too early in my opinion.

I blogged about her before. If you want to read my blog post on her, visit: "Selena" (John's Blog Space).

That concludes the variety of Southern divas. The "American Beauties" series will continue with more beauties from more regions. Next up in this series are American beauties from the Northeast. Until then... thank you for reading!
